Does anyone know how many Grand Villas there are at OKW? Is it completely impossible to get one at the 7 month window? (I know they are very popular) If so, has anyone ever waitlisted and gotten lucky?

Hi!

Not sure how many GV's there are at OKW but we booked a GV last year (we went in May) for 4 nights (Mon.-Thurs.) at OKW and booked in Feb. with no problem, no waitlist or anything they had it available. So it's not impossible to book in under 11 months. We booked at a less busy time of year I think though, but in anycase, depending on when you are trying to book for, you may get availibility. I think I remember reading somewhere that there are about 32 Grand Villas at OKW. Weekends, especially, would probably be easy to get, and probably even weekdays according to the previous poster if it is not a peak time of year. I know once, in July of 2001, we checked in early on a Sunday morning, and it was obvious from the cobwebs and other signs that this particular GV had not been occupied at all for a while.

If my memory serves me correctly, there are 23 GVs in OKW.

We successfully booked 4 nights for the middle of last October, calling day by day at 7 months out, and waitlisted for a further 3 nights. One of those nights came through fairly soon afterwards, but then I decided to cancel the remaining two nights waitlisted, so will never know whether I would have got the whole 7 nights in the end!

Here is the breakdown of GV's at DVC resorts.......

OKW-27 GV'S
BWV-7 GV's
VB -6 Beach Cottages
HH-5 GV's

P.S. as long as it is not a "Prime" time week(Holiday weeks,etc) you should have a good chance to get a GV at the 7 month window.

Looking at OKW, in Magic Season a GV is 51 points for Sunday through Thursday, and 123 points on Friday and Saturday. That's an awful lot of points, and not everyone is willing or able to spend that much. And note that you could get a 2BR plus a studio at the same time for substantially less points, or a 2BR plus a 1BR for only a little more than the GV.

We thought it was worth it, but not everybody's going to agree. So you're "competing" with just a subset of the members for the GVs, and that means you've probably got a pretty good chance, especially at OKW where there's 27 GVs to be had.
