Hiya!

I got a little inspiration the other night from watching Something's Gotta Give and .. well as we are having the reception in the Attic and it has a oldy feel to it, i want some old fashioned music to be played there!

The song that gave me the inspiration is La Vie En Rose which i have heard plenty of times before, but have not taken much notice of ... but when i heard it in the film it made me think of the Attic.

So i need your help!

I havent not got the foggiest clue on how to get this kind of really old fashioned boppy fun music ... but i want it! I have tried to google... but that aint happening.. haha!

Here are a few i have got from the film's soundtrack that sets the old music theme of music i had :

Je Cherche un Homme

La Vie en Rose

Fibre de Verre

C'Est Si Bon

So if you know any songs that are similar to the above - please please please let me know! Just any really old, boppy, jazzy songs!

What kind of music theme did YOU have in the Attic?

So if you have any other suggestions of music... let me know!!

(p.s i am having the Disney instrumental music too- i love that kind of music! Classic FM always brings back the memories of walking down Mainstreet..... )

:yay:

I just had the violinist play whatever she wanted. She played a mix of Disney love songs and other songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and some broadway songs that I recongnized. I wish I could remember her name because she was really good. Everyone really enjoyed the violinist and thought it was very relaxing and elegant. :goodvibes

You might try some michael buble. He has some fun jazzy-ish songs on some of his soundtracks. Me and my Df are doing our first dance to "save the last dance" by michael buble. You might want to check him out. :)

Too funny you said that! DF and I want to have an ipod set up and i want to use all Big Band music to set the mood of the "old" swing-ish feel.

Some good songs would be like

moonlight serenade
or songs by frank sinatra
oh and bobby darin!

Hope that helps ya huN!

For our Attic reception, I set up a bunch of playlists in my iPod that started with '60s cocktail music (like Henry Mancini), then moved to samba and bossa nova (like the Astrud Gilberto track on your Something's Gotta Give sounctrack) for the meal, and ended up with Space-Age Pop (Esquivel, Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman) and Latin Jazz (Tito Puente) for the rest of the reception.

If you like the sound of Louis Armstrong's version of La Vie en Rose on that soundtrack, check out jazz from the '20s and '30s (search on "hot jazz"). One good way to get a mix is to look for other soundtracks from movies set in that period. For example, I love the soundtrack to "Sweet and Lowdown," which is of the period and features a lot of songs by Django Reinhardt (also on your Something's Gotta Give soundtrack!).

One really good way to find music by genre is to sign up for Pandora, a free online radio service that creates custom playlists for you based on artists you like. If you type in "Louis Armstrong" or "Django Reinhardt" and set up stations based on each of them, Pandora will find *tons* of other artists and songs with similar or complementary sounds. You can veto tracks you don't like, and Pandora learns what you prefer this way. Eventually you have radio station that is so completely perfect, you never have to skip a song.

This way, you can learn about other artists and albums that might be good candidates for your wedding. If I were getting married today, I would bring my iPhone instead of an iPod, hook into Disney's sound system, and just play my Antonio Carlos Jobim station on the Pandora Radio iPhone app for music at the reception! :thumbsup2

Sorry this list will be long, but I've got an Ipod full.
CDs:
Irving Berlin in Hollywood
The Essential Glenn Miller
Bing & His Gal Pals
Swing Era 1930-1936

Bands/Singers:
Ella Fitzgerald
The Puppini Sisters (modern band)
Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers
Cole Porter (technically a composer....)
Duke Ellington
Judy Garland
Bobby Darin
Sidney Bechet

Songs not on those CDs:
What a Difference a Day Makes
All That Jazz (the original one)
So In Love
For Me and My Gal
They Can't Take That Away from Me
The Way You Look Tonight
Fly Me to the Moon

If you want more particular songs I've got a list of more than a hundred. Definitely get the Glen Miller Orchestra playing "When You Wish Upon a Star" however.

La Vie en rose is a film based on Edith Piaf (named after her famous song) who was a fabulously talented french singer. In the movie a woman named Jil Aigrot performed the vocals for the songs (voice over, she wasn't the actress who played Edith). I would suggest looking up either Edith Piaf or Jil Aigrot, both of whom are fantastic singers. I even met Jil Aigrot as she performed at the theatre I work at last season. :) Lovely lady.

Also, some other groups/singers you may be interested in:

Glenn Miller Band
Andrews Sisters
Bette Midler
Count Basie
Rosemary Clooney
