Old Disney Park photos

In looking at all the older pics of the parks I am always amazed at the lack of strollers. Nowadays the parks are choked off with parents pushing their kids in strollers. Back in the 70s and 80s we walked our little legs off.

This was the view from up there...

:thumbsup2

.

These old pics are great! I alwasy wanted to go to WDW as a child, but never got to..but now DH is taking me for the 1st time this September..:) I ahve seen pics of the castle as it is now..but from these older pics it looks a whole LOT bigger. Did they revamp it any time, or am I just seeing different angles of it?

Isn't that the truth?

Now, in a perfect example of cruel irony, our "little legs" get nipped off by the ginormous strollers ;)

BTW, that was just a joke, folks, so please don't flame me :hippie:

OMG... the thread it's awesomeee LOVED it!!

This has to be one of the best threads ever. I didn't get the chance to visit WDW until I was 18 so its great to see what I missed!! Thanks!!

I love the picture from the Skyride, and the pictures of the old tickets.

The old system with E-Tickets was pretty interesting.

from 1987:

Fantasyland -- notice how empty it is!

Epcot -- I have no idea what that stage thing is. I was two at the time, so I have no memory of what was there.

It looks like a stage of some kind. There appears to be speakers part way up the tower but I can't figure out what the cables going off in all directions from the tower are for.

To me, the cables look like strings of lights (like Christmas lights).....maybe to light up the stage area at night???

I think that is a circus that was there. 1987 was the first time I ever went. Acrobats and Trapees.

Here are some photos from my collection. I know I have more somewhere I just have to look for them, including Main Street Electrical Parade circa 1978/79/80. Also some 1986 and 1988 and some from the 90's too.

This is a shot of me proudly displaying my mouse ears while eating a delicious breakfast from a very 1970's looking kiddie table, the photo on the right is from my first (I think) WDW visit. I am the one on the far right in the light blue mickey shirt and jeans. This photo was taken in 1976 when I was two years old.

These next pictures are all from the same visit sometime in 1976/1977, when I was about two or three.

Waiting to see Minnie in Fantasyland, back in the days when everyone just clustered around the characters. That's me far left sucking my fingers :rotfl: in yellow and brown:

Not sure about this kiss Goofy laid on me! Check out the camera in the hand of the lady in the background!

I'm not sure where this was taken, Jungle Cruise maybe? (Sorry, the pic is in poor condition)

The next group was taken in July 1977, at age three. Notice I'm still wearing the same Mickey Mouse shirt as in the first photo!

Mommy and Me on Cinderella's carousel:

Back on the Carousel, this time at night:

Mom's favorite, the Country Bears (still sucking fingers! Ha!) (Tidbit: for theose DCL'ers who have been on the Western, those sandals on my feet are the kids' Kino sandals from Key West that are so often talked about. They are still *exactly* the same today!)

This next one is from 1978, on the Carousel again (where is that foliage behind us??) Unfortunatley (or maybe fortunately if you are a guy) those terrycloth shorts jumpsuits (worn without a bra) were all the rage back in the day! LOL!:lmao:

And a few things my mom said, she and my dad visited WDW around it's opening in 1971. (She also has a horror story about visiting DL shortly after it's opening in 1955 @ age 4, and Dumbo wasn't open yet!!! She still talks about how dissapointed she was!) But anyway, back to WDW...she says the day they went they had to wait in the traffic jam on the highway for hours, that the waits inside the park were so ridicluous that they only got to go on a couple of rides the whole day. She said the line for 20.000 leagues was four, yes FOUR hours long, that they had to take turns, one would hold the line and the other would go to the bathroom and get drinks then they would switch out!:sad2:

Enjoy the photos! There are more to come!:cutie:

These are old Disney, but from Tokyo Disney (I was there when it opened, which started my love affair with the mouse) :thumbsup2

I'm on the left, mom in the middle, bro on the right... yes, my mom still has that fro, sadly LOL

I have enjoyed looking at all of these pictures. They brought back a lot of memories of growing up in the 70s and 80s. It also reminded me of some of the rides that are no longer in existence.
