thanks for posting all these pictures everyone. they are brilliant. its nice to see what the park used to be like. I was 18 the first time i went and have been every few years since but have never seen the 20,000 leagues or skyway or stuff like that

But i was there so i got to see it... it was kinda cool to see. But the classic castle is way better.

so did they actually PAINT it?? and then have to strip the paint off??
then just all all that other stuff??
I guess I thought it was all like fiberglass stuff over it.

however they did it.... it was ugly!

No, they didn't actually paint it. It was some sort of covering.

EDIT: Hmm, coincidentally, my DisneyWorldTrivia page a day calendar has this fact for today -

In 1996, Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom was transformed into a giant birthday cake as part of WDW's 25th Anniversary celebration. It was covered with more than 400 gallons of pink paint and then decorated with "inflatable icing," 26 candles, and an assortment of giant pieces of "candy" (such as 3-foot lollipops).

So maybe I'm wrong...maybe it was painted! I always thought it was just pink casing.

Yep they painted most of it. Looks like the painted everything that was not covered by ether the inflatable candles or what looks like a lot of styrofoam facade. When they where done i imagine that they just painted over the pink. trying to take of the pink would probably hurt the castle walls.

I wonder how thick the layers of paint on those castle walls are!! They must repaint every few years, didn't they just pain a few years ago when they took down the Happiest Celebration on Earth decorations? It's funny to think somewhere under the gray, there is still pink paint.

Found some pictures and got them scanned last night. These are from 1995-1998 I think. There are only two that I know the exact year on, and I'll comment on them as they come up.

First up, just proving I'm old enough to remember, and have gone on the Skyway.

If you look closely, you'll notice a nice long wallet chain. This was before Disney put the smack down on such thing.

I swear I heard him say, 'gimmie your wallet kid'

This guy followed us all over the boat, pestering my mother to no end. She laughed it off...but man was it kinda creepy.

Yes, we wasted some of our time by making our way to the Wide World of Sports complex.

This bird bit me. No joke. Right through the pen he was in. I still have a scar.

My moms other boyfriend from our trip.

This was our first trip in 1995. I remember this picture like it was yesterday.

I was sicker than a dog here. I always ended up getting sick on our trips.

Ah, back when Jim Carrey was funny.

That's Wendell, from the Country Bear Jamboree (one of only a handful of characters in the parks not from a Disney film).

Yes it is. This is before they enclosed the 'sidewalk cafe'. From inside today you can see pretty clear distinctions between the original interior of the restaurant and what used to be sidewalk seating.

Haven't posted pictures here before so let's see if I can get this to work.

First we have a couple of WDW pictures circa 1977:

Me not being happy despite the fabulous ears.

My brother and I with dad who is sporting that lovely 70's look.

Then we didn't go again until the mid '80s, not sure what year.

Those were some attractive home made smocks there (no, not really). The two kids had grown to four kids at this point.

And dad grew 1980's facial hair.

And here's our ticket from that trip, might help to pin down the date if it looks familiar to someone. I think there's even a day left on it! They were in one of my parent's wallets back home when it was stolen and then tossed into a ditch which is why it's all muddy and wrinkled looking. I guess the silly robbers weren't planning a trip to WDW.
