are there elevators at the OKW buildings.
I believe only 3 buildings have elevators.are there elevators at the OKW buildings.
@friendoffigment OKW only buildings 62, 63, and 64 have elevators.I believe only 3 buildings have elevators.
As above, only a few OKW buildings have elevators. If a guest has mobility issues and can't climb stairs, it's best to reserve a HA unit. That's the only way to guarantee either ground floor or elevator building.are there elevators at the OKW buildings.
I will say that OKW really tries to accommodate the first floor request, and honestly, in about 6 stays with first floor request, the request was met every time. However, as the average age of the OKW owner increases, that request gets more frequent and therefore harder to fill. I've heard recently of people who needed first floor, who were unable to have that need filled. It's probably harder in the Hospitality House category, which only has 8 buildings, so less flexibility than the standard category. We never tried to request first floor except in the standard category. As above, only a few OKW buildings have elevators. I'm an OKWer and I generally ask for non-first-floor rooms... mostly though so I don't have footfalls overhead. Maybe there's some balance that way.I will say that OKW really tries to accommodate the first floor request, and honestly, in about 6 stays with first floor request, the request was met every time. Aren't the buildings that are 3 story the same buildings that have grand villas in them? The only villa that has a grand villa that begins on the first floor is Building 48, which has a HA GV.Old Key West buildings are mostly 2-stories, with some 3-story buildings.
Thank you for answering all of my questionsOld Key West buildings are mostly 2-stories, with some 3-story buildings.
I think first floor would be the right option for us, thanks for the info. There are just so many places I want to stay, I guess thats a good problem to have! Most of the buildings will be two stories - so essentially one flight of stairs - note the stairs are a bit higher than a standard story nd most are two-tiered - you go up half a flight to a plateau, turn, then up the second half. There are a rare few buildings with elevators - 62, 63, 64.
But one other thing about the 'view' - even on 2nd floors, often the views are partially blacked by tree canopies. It's hit or miss - some balconies are wide open with views of golf course or lakes, while others even the 2nd and 3rd floor are surrounded by lush trees, so you only partially see the golf or lake. The odds are about the same on the ground floor too - sometimes the balconies look straight onto golf or lake, other times there are trees between you and the view - actually the ground floor can sometimes be an advantage as you're only looking through the tree trunks, not the full leafy canopy!
And yes - the 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom villas are huge compared to any other DVC. As a Boardwalk member since 1996, it took probably 5-6 years before I ended up staying in an Old Key West 2-bedroom - my family all commented that it was the first DVC we'd been in that genuinely felt like it could be a residence we could live in. All DVCs are comfortable and nice, and others have nice locations, but OKW felt like we were renting someone's townhouse...the size, the individual buildings, the golf and lake surroundings - all felt much more residential and so relaxing.
