Please tell me about OKW? we are staying there in april for the first time. Any tips or advice you can share would be nice.

I know many of you LOVE it there.
TIA

the resort is beautiful - the rooms are very large
- what size room are you staying in?

It has many quiet pools - the main pool is bigger (no slide) and close to the HH - which has the restuarants, arcade, tennis court, basketball court, bike & boat rentals, commuity hall, and the gym.

It has one restuarant - 2 type snack bars - one at HH, the other at turtle's crawl. - the one at HH has hamburgers - the other one does not.

this resort is very laid back and beautiful. Just walking around is a pleasure.

there is a walking path behind building 55 to DD (westside).

Make sure you take the boat from OKW to DD atleast once. I consider this one the best rides in WDW.

we will be in a one bedroom, it is myself,DH 12yo and 4yo. It was a last minute idea (booked this morning)

We have been to olivia's back when they still had pooh, but that is our experience with OKW.
Thanks for the advice.

Keep it coming :D

It's just so quiet and beautiful at OKW, it's like being in paradise! My absolute most favorite thing to do on vacation is to get up early, make coffee, and then sit on my balcony watching the golfers as the mist burns off and the sun rises higher in the sky, beginning the day. I don't even own there, but it's my favorite place to be in the summer!:sunny: :earsgirl:

We like to stay in the GVs at OKW. It really is like having your house on Disney property for a couple weeks. Between the ease of paring in front of your unit, the tranquil views, the palatial units, it really is most like home.

Per Richyams:

Between the ease of paring in front of your unit,

we park in the front of our unit .. he may prepare fruit salad out in front of his...

nah - just teasing Rich, REALLY!!! he is right - being able to park there is grand.

As far as i can tell, there isn't a bad unit in the place, glad you are going to stay there. Be prepared to want to buy into DVC if you haven't already.

Sue

I agree about the boat to Downtown Disney; don't miss that experience.

Plan ahead for any snacks/foods you want to purchase because in the one bedrooms and larger you have a full kitchen. Take extra coffee filters, coffee, tea, sugar packets etc. Go light on clothes as laundry facilities are available. Take extra soap powder as enough is there for a load to get you started but it will be $$$ effective to bring some from home. Trash recepticles will be located outside and are cleverly concealed in keeping with the OKW atmosphere. Additional dish soap and paper towels, etc. should be gotten from housekeeping. Extra soaps/towels cost extra.

If you drive or rent a car, parking is available right outside the door.

There is a hot tub in one bedrooms and larger. TVs are in the LR and bedroom. Queen pull-out in the LR. The one bedrooms are very spacious as everyone else has said. Having said that, you really won't understand just how spacious until you arrive but afterward, you may have a difficult time if you stay anywhere but a DVC. Have a great time!

I own at OKW. I agree 1 bedroom units are fantastic. Avoid building 18, 19 & 20 if you are in the room a lot. Buses stop and turn around here every three minutes all day long. Transportation is great but noisy at this location. If you are offered this location politely decline. Just my opinion.

I own at BWV and BCV, but I do need an OKW fix once in awhile. It is so relaxing, the way vacation was meant to be. ;) The 1 bedroom is just great--I love the porch! I think the transportation is good--never had to wait too long for a bus. I like the boat ride Downtown. I guess I like everything about it!! :D Have fun!

Between the ease of paring in front of your unit,
I know Rich meant "parking", but you could "par" as well! The golf course is great, and if you don't golf, it is still fun to watch!

We purchased at OKW even though BW was available at the same time. We always thought we would stay other places on site, but can't seem to give up staying at OKW! You will love it! I know some have had trouble with noise in buildings 18-20, but I think those are mostly in studio units. We stayed in both 1 and 2 bedroom units in those buildings and had no trouble with noise. We also LOVE the view from there! THey are not good if you have a person sleeping in the LR,, though, because there is no seperate door to the bathroom in those buildings. We usually request South Point area so we are close to the walkway to DD.

We stayed in the back against the highway, bldg 50. It was a bit noisy against the highway in the morning and eve but night was fine.

Thanks again everyone, I'm quite excited!!! I love last minute trips :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Cruelladeville took the words right out of my mouth. Love sitting out on the balcony with a great cup of Java.

It is not our home resort, but sure feels like home. It is where we stay the majority of the time in the summer. Enjoy your stay. Hope you enjoy it as much as some of us do.:)

The hot tub at the main pool was very large and very warm which was nice in Feb. It appears as though children are allowed if they want to go in with you as long as they are well supervised. My 4 year old wanted to go in many times and I could not complain!:)

My husband enjoyed it so much ( the laid back atmosphere and golf course views ) he wished we had bought there as our home.

Enjoy!:p

OKW is my home. This trip 3/9-3/16 (only booked a week ago) we couldn't get into OKW so we are trying BWV for the first time. And I know that I will miss OKW.
The rooms are spacious. The entire resort is relaxing and peaceful. And I knwo that whenever we are there standing at the bus stop, walking or sitting everyone says Hi-CMs and guests too. I sometimes think that I will get a sore arm from waving.

Olivia's is lovely for a meal. Good's Food to Go on Turtle Krawl outside Olivia's near the pool has burgers, hot dogs etc. but you can also get anything off Olivia's menu to go! Turtle Shack at the Old Turtle Pond 'quiet pool' has sandwiches, salads and nibbles.
The Trumbo Ferry to DD is a not to be missed experience. If you take it be prepared to wait at busy times. The capacity is 10 including children so it can fill up quickly. If you are riding it at night it may be cool along the canals so bring a sweater.
Rent a bike at Hank's Rent & Return (or a video). There are activities posted at Hank's so be sure to check them out.
There are games in Community Hall to be played. The exercise room is a bit small but why use it when you can walk or jog through the resort? Try a massage- it is a real treat. There is a sauna in the lighthouse at the main pool and whirlpools at the main pool and the Old Turtle Pond pool.
If you are at HH and don't want to walk back walk to the first stop after HH Peninsular Road (just over the bridge) and catch the next bus back to your unit.
Watch the wild life from your balcony-mostly mallards but egrets are frequent visitors as are rabbits and geckos (those little lizards). Or watch the golfers who seem to make the most bizarre shots on the LBV golf course. Which is why I don't play golf there-too many people watching my foul ups!
I love OKW and once you stay there I think that you will too. It is warm and friendly and definitely relaxing.
Enjoy!

Great description for OKW. It makes me feel like I am there again just reading it, NancyDVC!

It definately sounds like you are going to miss it on your next trip.
I hope you do have a magical time at BWV. It is sure to be special as long as you are at Disney.:sunny:
