To the OP - so very sorry to hear about this awful experience for you and at my home resort!:earseek: Glad everything was handled well though and that it didn't ruin your vacation and even more importantly, that it didn't ruin the trip for your kids;)

I'm glad that you and your family are safe.

Make sure you contact the 3 credit bureaus and put fraud alerts on your credit reports.

It is very easy to cancel your credit cards but thieves often use those just to get different credit cards in your name.

If you put the alert on your credit reports, any company will have to contact you directly if someone applies for credit in your name.

Take care.

What a nightmare this must have been.

I'm so sorry that your family went through this.

Have you been notified if the crooks tried to use your credit cards?

Curious to know if they tried and if they were caught!

So sorry you had to go through this, but I am glad OKW came through with great service. It makes you feel good that they actually cared.

I really hate to hear that this happened to your family. I understand how you feel as our DD's friend had money stolen from her purse in her room when we were at BCV last May. They had at least 3 rooms with money stolen over that weekend and with information we provided (we knew that the money was only unattended for 1-2 hours), they were able to catch the person. Of course, that night my DD and her friend were so upset they wouldn't stay in their room (my DH and I were in another studio). The BCV housekeeping manager was wonderful and moved us to adjoining rooms at the YC. These were college age girls and they were upset and crying so I can only imagine how frightened your young boys were. The staff at BCV were wonderful to us and did all they could to make up for what happened. I'm so glad OKW staff was as wonderful to you and that you still had a magical vacation.

Another word of caution, as another DVC member pointed out to us, criminals do not necessarily have to steal your credit cards, just copy the information off them and use them on internet sites to purchase things.

:( Sorry to hear that happened to your family Kristy! You guys sound like you have the BEST attitude! It must have been quite traumatizing for your children. But I am thrilled to hear that Disney tried their best to make up for the problem. I wonder if this will lead to different "screening" process when entering the resorts? I seem to recall that we had to show some sort of ID when we entered Disney property...but I don't remember it being too much, maybe just our room card/key? I don't know...that is scary though!!!

I am so very sorry that this happened to you and your family. I appreciate you taking the time to post your report so others will be more aware that this can happen in DW. I, for one, did have my head in the sand, but no more. Thanks....

Thanks so much for everyones' kind words. It really was a bad night, but a great vacation otherwise. It's good to be aware that these things can happen, but it's still so rare if you look at the huge numbers of people who go to WDW! Hopefully this report won't make anyone too paranoid when they are there! I was so impressed with the OKW staff that rather than sour my OKW impression - it made me like it there even more! Hopefully I didn't cause anyone to think badly of my new home - it realy is a great place, and we all can't wait to go back! :teeth:

I am so sorry that happened to you and your family. I'll have to say, the way you handled it and are handling it is really something.

I know things like that can and do happen. And a friend of mine said Disney does have its fair share of incidents - usually, they make everyone happy enough that it doesn't become headline news. But that's another story...

Glad you and your family are safe and sound and still happy to be a part of the DVC family. It is a good place to be.

I'm so glad to hear you and your family are ok. Thank goodness no one was in the room when that happened.
We were at OKW a couple weeks ago and each morning I would go out on the balcony, then go back inside and not completely close (or obviously lock) the door behind me:rolleyes: Totally unlike me, I don't know what I was doing, but now I know that we were really lucky!

So sorry for your bad experience. We just returned from an OKW stay 2 weeks ago. We had a 3rd floor villa and I complained every time I walked up those stairs, but never thought about easier access for theft on the ground floor.

My DH and I stayed for 6 nights, but we had my inlaws up from VB for one night in a seperate room. I didn't realize until we cleaned out our rental car on the way to the airport that our parking passes had been switched. Ours said we had checked out the weekend before, but never once did any of the guard gates question us during the week.

I don't understand why the theives didn't take the laptop and the purse - especially if the CCards were in the laptop case.

I guess there's no rhyme or reason.

Although we'll never know for sure I can hazard a guess. Drug addicts just want money so they can buy drugs. They don't want a laptop or a car. Yes they could sell those things to get cash but in general a junkie doesn't have the patience. They want cash NOW so they can get drugs NOW.

I am sorry this happened. It makes me mad just to read about it.
Do the police think they have a good chance at catching the crooks? Please let us know if they do.

I am also happy to see that you were treated right by the good folks at OKW/DVC/Disney! :D

Good luck...
