Well, finally figured I'd chime in about my recent DVC vacation.
We were there on rented points. I didn't even know points were involved, just the fixed cost I was quoted. Either way, it was far cheaper than rack rate and the accomodations far exceeded my expectations. Upon return, I researched DVC a bit, and that was how we came to be DVC members. BCV Owners since 6/03, yahoo!!!
We stayed in OKW room 4430 for the first night. We had requested a non-smoking room and that room smelled strongly of smoke. As the bell man moved our luggage into the room, he noticed the smell and the fact that we have small children, and suggested he'd get us a more convenient and smoke free room. His name is Eugene, and he's one of the best CMs and friendliest people I've met to this day. They didn't have a suitable room for the first night, so moved us the following day, with bell services taking care of all the luggage moves when we went to the parks. Aside from the smell, that room was OK. The balcony view is of an unimpressive water fountain.
They put us into room 1429 which was a great change. It is only a short walk across the street to the main buildings, and the room seemed even bigger than the previous one. The view off the balcony is obstructed by trees lining the roads entering OKW, but there is a spectacular stand of bamboo just a few feet from the building. Being from the New England, we found that interesting and beautiful.
We had minor issues with the start/stop button in the Jacuzzi, but aside from that, everything was first class. In fact, we didn't have to go to the parks if it was rainy, my toddler could have stayed in the jacuzzi with bubbles from noon to night.
Staying near the main building is great for busses on departure into the parks, but it's the last stop on return. So, if you don't want to ride the buss loop upon return, you can just jump off at the first stop over the bridge on Peninsular road, and walk back over the bridge. We found it convenient to walk back through the lodge to grab any last minute items at the store as we passed by.
The room was quiet and peaceful, but you can hear quite a bit of bus traffic seeing the proximity to the lodge. Our home is on a main road, so it didn't bother us in the least.
Our experience with the room was great, and I was happily surprised to find how well appointed they are. We will most definately be shopping for groceries on our next Welcome Home.
The parks were great, and we wore ourselves out like usual, even with the mid day return and napping (how much do you really nap with an 8 month old and 2 1/2 year old).
Well, that's about it regarding the DVC portion of the trip. As I mentioned, it was good enough to convince me to buy. We purchased at BCV solely for SAB, but I am already thinking about an add-on at OKW due to cost and availability considerations.
Have fun folks.
