We've been reviewing all the boards about DVC for a few weeks now; just received video/info from Disney in mail today. Luck seems to be in my favor - was able to book a one-bedroom at OKW 1/22-1/29/05 through II (we own a "regular" timeshare in the northeast). So, now I'll hold off on my decision for a few months and will be able to see a DVC resort in person. We usually go to WDW (or US) every year, but stay at SOG or offsite.

Is DVC pretty good at completing projects on schedule? I see that the pool project is scheduled to be done in Dec. and hope that it will be done for us in Jan. (just in case it happens to be warm one day . . .)

I'm sure the new slide for the Main Pool will be completed before you arrive.

Best wishes -

DVC generally finishes projection ahead of time. they like to make sure they give themselves enough time in case something goes wrong.

So yes by next January the slide should be ready.

You'll have a great trip. OKW is lovely, and in late January the crowds in the parks are light. Most of the parks will close a bit early that time of year, but you'll be close to DD where there's plenty to do in the evenings. Enjoy!

In 'normal' times they would meet or beat the dates. But with hurricane Charlry doing so much damage in Florida, I'm not sure the labor force will be available. I would think getting people a place to live is a higher priority than a slide. I have friends 12 miles from WDW and they still don't have power. JMHO

You will like OKW. If you can keep getting into SOG I would say you might want to consider not buying. SOG is a great buy. They also have the largest regular rooms in all of WDW. It was once a deluxe resort called "The Disney Inn" best place to stay in all of WDW at the time because it was never crowded, everyone thought it was for golfers only. Well enjoy your stay at OKW.

If you're seriously thinking of buying into DVC you may want to spend some time just checking out the options while you're there because you'll have to decide between buying resale at one of the older resorts or buying new at SSR.

Ie. visit BCV, BWV, WLV and SSR in addition to staying at OKW.

Maybe that's because before it was the Disney Inn it was the Golf Resort. (that was the actual name). This is back in the days when it, the Poly and the Contemporary were the only Disney hotels.

the disney inn became Shades of Green

I think the name before Disney Institue - was Villages of Marketplace????? that not right

Before it was SOG, it was the Disney Inn, before that it was the Golf Resort, one of the 3 original resorts at WDW.

stacieps -- Just out of curiosity, how long were you waiting for that trade to come through?

Have a great trip in January!

I think I "deposited" my week in Feb or March and made the request for Oct-Nov '05 at DVC (didn't think DH would be back from Iraq until spring '05 so was using "safe" dates). I then added a request for the week of 4/23/05. II kept calling to see if I'd confirm an exchange for a non-DVC property. They called again Wed. and told me my chances were "slim" to get Disney. I knew that there were a few DVC exchanges open in Jan. '05, so I decided to just book one.

Now I'm just hoping that the Army ends my husband's orders on time (1/5/05--he was activated from Nat'l Guard). His unit is actually still in Iraq, but he is home due to an injury and will have surgery on Monday, with the necessary PT and such, they don't expect him to be well enough in time to return to his unit there. Otherwise, the kids and I will take another trip to WDW without him (I took them in April - one of many "distractions" used while he was gone - needed them to have things to look forward to).

I think Ft. wilderness was the third original, and the golf resort opened fourth in 1973,

stacieps -- Well things are certainly in your favor so far...so let's hope that pixie dust keeps working so all of you can go together in January!
