OKW studio or AKL value stuido - decision time!

Hello,

DH and I will be in Orlando at the end of January for 7 (hopefully) blissful days of Disney magic & Universal fun!

We are currently booked at the Radisson (Buena Vista), and are now having second thoughts about our decisions. Being the curious person that I am, I began inquiring about renting DVC points, and low and behold, I now want to switch resorts, but I'm unsure of which to choose!

I've read about both choices pretty extensively(online, and in the Unofficial guide), but in my mind, there's still no clear winner. What we're looking for is a very clean room, and a resort-like vibe. I don't really know what I mean about the latter, but something a bit different from a hotel located off a busy motorway. The room must be clean, without any residual chemical smell due to severe asthma and allergies. We will likely be renting a car, so transportation won't be an issue. Oh and we will not be subscribing to the DDP this time around. We only have 2 ADRs ('OHana & Artist Point), but that could change depending on where we're staying.

Could anyone pls recommend which they'd select, and why. Also, has anyone experience problems with allergies at a Disney resort before?

I would choose AKV because to me, the theming is so much more magical than OKW. Both Jambo and Kidani are absolutely beautiful resorts and there is just something about being able to see the animals that just adds to the experience. The pools at both are wonderful and there are good TS restaurants at both (no CS at Kidani, though). We have rented points and stayed at both Jambo and Kidani and loved them! However, unless you have already checked availability, I think you will have a hard time getting a value studio this close to your travel dates. Those value rooms book quickly because they are so few points, but it is always worth a shot. I will also add that I have never stayed at OKW and I think it is a nice resort and I know the rooms are huge, but to me, it just isn't "Disney" enough!

Speaking as a DVC member I'll say you are pretty much out of luck on the value rooms at AKV. They are limited in number and generally booked and waitlisted by DVC members hoping to get them. I'd go with OKW. FYI the value studios are only in Jambo. You might be able to get a regular studio at one of the other view options. I would not wait much longer to book. Oh and another thing, OKW studios give you 2 regular beds while other DVC studios will be a queen plus pullout.

If the value room at AKL is not available would you upgrade to a standard view or book OKW? For my dates, a value would be 69 pts, standard 81, and a studio at OKW 76 - for us the price difference isn't the biggest factor here.

What to do, what to do???

We have stayed at both resorts and prefer OKW because its much quieter and I like the location better than AKL

I would upgrade to standard view if available. I would also probably
choose Kidani over Jambo for an adults only trip because it is a more relaxing and peaceful. We have never had a problem with the transportation at AK even though it is bus only.

Old Key West rooms are larger that other resort rooms and the location is more central on the property.

No matter what, check into getting the room specially cleaned for allergies before you get there.
