OKW renos

My 2c on the reno--

1)Don't mind the wood-like floors, but worry about the noise
2) Don't like the dark headboard at all - what's Key West about that?
3) OK with no footboard
4) Ditto # 2 on the black table --- don't get it
5) sleeper chair color choice seems mismatched
6) flat panel TV's very good
7) granite counter OK, but I need a closer look at the color

Overall, it seem to have lost the theme a bit. I hope I'm wrong, but after 30 + stays at OKW, I don't want to lose the theme we bought into.

I totally agree on all points!

I think the one bedrooms look great. This is not making my December decision easy.

I think that the appearance of what looks like mismatched furniture to some is perfectly acceptable.:confused3 All of the colors used complement each other and work well together, IMO. I really like the use of the green from the original tile and love, love, love the blue in the bedroom. I think it looks like a B&B type of old home, many of which exist in the real Key West.

I also know that pictures of the rooms never look as good as the real thing. I also think it is quite a big change and I can certainly understand why so many of you are concerned about it. :) However, they could take out all the furniture and replace it with cardboard boxes and I would still love my original home resort! Well maybe not cardboard boxes, but you know what I mean, right?;)

We are specifically asked to NOT fax the resort. Your best bet is to call MS now and make your request that way.

We are not timeshare holders, there's been a big promotion in the UK to encourage people to stay here. I'm unsure what MS is?

Member services. If you are staying on a promotion from Disney, then perhaps they gave you a number to use for requests?

Apart from the blue walls in the Studio part (not a big fan of them anywhere tbh) I totally agree with you! Taken as a whole I think it looks really nice. Yes, it looks different, and I really liked the old look too, but I'll be just as happy to spend time my time there. Thanks to the size of the villas and the beauty of the resort as a whole, I still think it's a fabulous place to be staying onsite in Disney World. :cheer2:

Don't get me wrong -- I still think OKW has a big advantage with the size of the rooms and the lower point requirements. But, I gotta tell 'ya, I don't get the dark headboards. I just took a look at some of the pix posted at allears.net and they have a pix of the new studio and the old studio. The new one looks sooooooo dark, and usually dark translates to a "smaller" feel. The old headboard color oozed Key West to me. The blue walls and darker headboard is screaming Beach resort to me.

Maybe its the fact that we have been members for so long and been to OKW so many times. I just think they could have upgraded and updated while maintaining the theme more.

Of course, I haven't seen it in person and we are still going to stay there more than anywhere else for the aformentioned reasons.

Maybe when we are at Kidani in a few weeks we will wander over and see if we can get a peek of the new units.

The studios do "feel" smaller, and they do look like more likeamodern beach resort rather than early 20th century Key West. I don't care for the new color scheme. We stayed in a studio lst month. And the studios are noticeably noisier because of the sound carrying from the one bedroom carpetless living room.

It is nice to see everything "new & fresh" but they could have done better with the themeing for the same price by simply choosing better colors and fabrics.

Where are you seeing the new studio pictures? Whenever I look at the picture page all I see are the old studio pictures.

Interesting that the new pictures on All Ears shows a braided rug under the coffee table, yet that wasn't in the one we saw earlier here.

After looking at the phots on All Ears, I've decided the best part is the coffee table and rug (if it really is there), and the worst parts are the ugly fabric on the sleeper chair and the bedroom wicker chair. LOVED the pink and white seersucket that used to be on that chair, and HATE the dark puke color it is now. I do NOT like the dark headboards either. It just doesn't look like Key West to me, and is way too modern looking for early 1900.

I like the roman shades, and curtains in both bedrooms, but that valance in the living room makes no sense to me at all. Is it really orange????

I also have been trying to figure out if they put real granite on the counters or a quartz product like Silestone or Cambria. The pictures on Deb's site look a little like quartz. In fact, I think the pink countertops were quartz composit as well.

Glad they kept the entry tile, but wish they would have kept it on the kitchen floor too. I'm not too bothered by the dark table, but the fabric on the chairs being all one color bother me a lot.

Nothing about the details in the reno says "1900's Key West" to me anymore. Well, with the exception of the crackle finish on the coffee table. If they would have done more of that and kept the color washed wall in the master bath, I would have been happier.

I couldn't find any photos of a renovated studio but did locate photos on Allears for a renovated 2BR. http://allears.net/acc/g_okw.htm check out the photos for 4523 - Dedicated 2 BR - Renovated June 2010

It looks like the dining table, the headboards in both BRs, and the top of the MBR armoire and the night stands and the bureau in the 2nd bedroom are all now the same dark stained wood. Not black but a very dark walnut. When I enlarged the valance photo, it looks like they are made out of a print that has colors that matched the throw pillows on the sofa and loveseat. Oh they also made the whicker on the chair in the MBR a dark brown.

They have definitely muted the colors. But I still think overall it looks attractive.

I loved the original wicker chair in the bedroom. Now the wicker and the cloth are very dark. The musturd wall behind the bed and the headboard are very dark. They took the bright tropical feel of the room away.

The allears. pictures make it look a little better, and you're right the table doesn not appear black, but a dark cherry. I think the rug gives the room a more put together look. I think the wicker chair looks to be the same material as the sleeper chair, and a little drab at that!

But the white Mickey Head on the table just looks tacky. This isn't Pop Century or the All Stars where we need to be constantly reminded.

Okay, so I missed THAT! I do NOT think THAT has anything at all to do with OKW!:headache::headache:

What table do you see that? I only see coasters.

I wish they had done a foot rest again for the living room chair. Even if it pulls out there's plenty of room to push it to the side.

At first I didn't like all the new changes in the two bedroom we're going to have for Christmas - but after looking on allears at the new pictures, and then looking at the old ones, I actually found myself thinking wow! It really does look better - refreshed, appealing and I'm looking forward to our stay. I saw the old couches and rug and actually said "Ewww" out loud. I know change can't make everyone happy, but it's my sister and her family's first stay there and they'll think it's wonderful because they won't know any different.:goodvibes

did they remove the table from the 2nd bedroom?

Interesting question....I can't see it in any of the new photos, but I think ChuckS stayed in one recently, so perhaps he can comment on that.
