OKW renos

Frankly, I suspect they didn't even bother to have an imagineer look at it with the OKW theme in mind at all. I think they did the cheapest thing they could do to make it look "new", not fresh with the theme.
I'm afraid that you are correct in your assessment!

Did anyone else notice that these are not the "new" style sofa sleeper, but they simply recovered the old sofa sleeper? I hope they at least replaced the mattresses in them.

Yes I noticed, my son is the one that usually sleeps on it and it's not the same as the origial pink plaid sleeper sofa (which was pretty comfy). Why is it that every other resort including BWV (who just had a refurb.) have better sleepers? Looks like one big sag in the middle!

Ugh, you're right! We HAVE had some of the new style ones at OKW in the past too. I'm starting to think they didn't really replace all of them in the first place when they did that a couple years ago. I've not checked every time, but the new style ones are not so comfortable to sit on, while the old ones "sit" better than they sleep. I'm not too concerned about that though, because we don't usually use the pull outs anyway.

I thought it was completely different looking at these photos of the sofa bed we took last year.

The sofa bed seemed comfy enough to me when I tried it out but I didn't sleep on it.

I only managed to quickly get this photo of the studio next door to us when Mousekeeping were cleaning it and I asked very nicely if I could.

Still love your pics Caron, and whilst there are some small niggles about things which don't seem to "fit" overall I like the new changes. Thanks for the pic of the studio, i am sure we will be happy with our studio, (seems everyone else in wdw is upgrading to 1 bed's during our timeframe ;) )

Thanks Val, the studio looked lovely from what I saw. I don't think the buildings you have requested will have been done though when you go.

I would be pretty hacked off too :confused3

Thanks so much for posting the still pics. Our whole family is going for Christmas, and half of them have never stayed at OKW (My DSIS and seven others), so they won't mind the changes at all. I don't think we'll miss the icky carpet in the living room, and the floors will be much easier to clean in the kitchen when we make a mess with Christmas baking and dinner. Plus, all the Christmas decorations we want to bring will make it even cozier and homier to us, so we can't wait. I already requested Turtle Pond for both two bedrooms we are getting. Thanks again!

I really liked OKW in our first stay there although I hadn't thought I'd like the decor from the pictures. I guess I'll just have to see when when get our first stay in a renovated room but I'm kinda shaking my head from the hodge podge that it seems was done. Right now I think they should have done the 90% refurb that they said they were going to do.

Also I'm a person who likes something on the floors. We have both carpet and hardwoods at home but we have throw rugs on the hardwoods to break up the space. But I think I could adjust. What I'm really worried about is the noise. I had been planning on booking one of our next trips at OKW but now I'm less inclined to. Was that the purpose of the reno?!?! :rotfl: We'll give it a try though.

The intended purpose was because is was time to renovate just as BWV has just been renovated. I can't however stop feeling that OKW has been treated like the redheaded stepchild in this renovation. For example: Recovered old sofa beds, which were not comfortable to begin with, the new sofa beds were indeed better. Miss matched furnishings, what's with the black dinner table, it's sticks out like a sore thumb. Another example is refinishing the beds, which again look totally out of place since the remaining furniture/light decor is the same as before. The dark framed mirror in the mst. bath looks ridiculous, it doesn' match anything other than the head board. The beige chair, there's nothing beige about OKW, and with the new yellow paint color and the blue sofas, I find the pink/red patterned window top draping to make for an odd looking combination.

The BWV refurb was not like this at all, they stayed within the theme and nothing that was replaced looks out of sorts, it all matches. In fact, it looks fantastic!

I don't understand how a refurbishment could be allowed to follow no rhyme or reason, was there no decorator involved? Who ever approved these changes has been sniffing too much pixie dust!

I totally agree. This just looks like the proverbial "horse put together by a committee". You know....ends up looking like a camel instead of a horse.

I too think the BWV refurb looks terrific and b/c of that I am so surprised by the OKW mishmash.

Thanks, I understand now. The sofa-bed in our re-furbished villa last month was way comfier than the one we had last August with the pads. We were in Building 62 last August so they probably have the different sofa-beds. At Christmas we were in Building 12 but didn't use the sofa-bed so I couldn't say what that was like.

Before I start, let me thank the posters for the good quality pictures. :thumbsup2

Now on to my rant. As you can tell from my screen name, I love OKW. Been an owner since 1995. But I'm seriously not liking the changes this renovation has brought. I've always liked the color scheme of the original OKW units but the new palette has completely changed the look and not for the better.

To be fair, I do like the "wooden" floors and the new window treatment on the door to the deck. But if you're going to change those blinds, why not also do the ones in the living room windows? And I'm just hating the overall color scheme throughout the units - way to dark and to my eyes mismatched colors.

The addition of a sleeper chair is welcome but it doesn't look like it will be very comfortable with those seams on the mattress. Fortunately I won't have to find out for real.

...just my opinion...

This sofa sleeper is a whole lot less comfortable than the older ones with the bar. The thin foam pads on the platform are pretty hard. My son gets the sleeper sofa all the time and he didn't like this style. He did like the ones at BCV where the cushions flip under to support the foot of the bed.

Maybe they realized that this type with the platform isn't that comfortable and have gone back to the one with the real mattress.

I like the "old style" better myself (I always take the couch, as I usually travel with Mom.) I do hope they replaced the mattresses, they were getting worn out, but overall, were much more comfortable than the pad type.
