I was just on the DVC member website and I saw a list of "Know before you go" updates to the various resorts. I saw something mentioning

Disney's Old Key West Resort
: Refurbishment from spring 2017 through 2019

Did anyone hear about this. It's going to be a 1 1/2 year refurbishment project. How long ago did they refurbish the rooms the last time. I wonder if they are going to do a complete refurbishment this time pulling out all the older tiles, etc.

I think it was 2010? 2009 at the earliest but 2010 to 2011 sounds right. BWV had had its refurb in 2009 although not quite as extensive as OKW so I'm a little shocked. Where these reserves are coming from seems a bit of a mystery too.

That's what I was going to say maybe 5-6 years ago? Seems weird to do it again. However I know a lot of people complained they didn't do a "full" renovation like they are doing at BCV now. Wonder if OKW will lose it's Jacuzzi too in the next rehab..

If I were an OKW owners and wanted the jetted tubs I'd be writing in. ::yes:: I'd think that since so little was done in the bathroom that they would be the main focus. Perhaps they plan to do the paint job on the cabinets too as I can't imagine the current designers like the whitewash.

Supposedly the last member meeting had the mention that more frequent full renovations were not really much more expensive than less frequent renovations with soft goods in between. They may have to replace a lot of extra couches and floor tiles, etc to have as replacements in years 10-15 after the last renovation?

Just as long as they don't put that stupid murphy bed in the studios and take out one queen bed and replace it with a double sleeper sofa.

Also, replace the full washer and dryer with stackables. NO, no, no.

Studios should be safe from the murphy bed but I bet there's a wall they could find in the 1 and 2BR's so they could sleep 6 and 10. :rolleyes1

Maybe, just maybe, they will refurbish it to look like the original OKW. I know, just wishful thinking on my part.

Does anyone have photos of the original OKW villas interior, both studios and one/two bedrooms?

They could put a couple of bunk beds in the master bedroom and in the living room. Or they will invent a bunk bed that folds into a chair.

Hmm, they could add rows of those metal bunk beds, sort of like what the kids slept in the movie Annie and retheme the resort to "Old Key Flophouse" Retro 1930's depression chic. Sleeps 20.

Seriously, I hope the don't mess with the two Queens in the studios, the full size washer and dryer, the jetted tub and they must leave the icemaker in the fridge! When we stayed at SSR once, I was not happy to find they cheaped out and didn't have an icemaker. It's Florida, and I have to have iced drinks. If they really want to be nice they could bring back the peach towels.

I was also surprised to hear they're going to have another refurbishment. Seems like they just finished taking out the tile floors and putting in the new Pergo type floors and changed all the soft goods. As so many have said, it wasn't a big change and they kept most of the kitchen the same including the tile countertops but this resort is so large it took a long time.

I am also finding this message on the tool when I requested a 1 bedroom availability....anyone else??

Same here - I am unable to check availability at Old Key West using the resort availability search tool...Strange.

I keep getting a website down for maintenance message with Olaf popping up. It says it be back at 12AM?

Maybe they need to refurbish the website too. Replace hard and soft good, etc... :)

I remember getting an email that the DVC site would be down for maintenance but I don't recall just when it was. Perhaps this weekend?

As far as OKW changes go, there are a lot of things that DVC is prevented from changing because of very restrictive FL laws governing the time-share business. I've owned at OKW since 1995 and if I could recall where my documents are I'd list just what is part of those specifications.

I recall a few years ago that people were thinking OKW studios would switch to the one bed and pull-out arrangement that all the other DVC units have. Then we heard that it couldn't happen because the configuration of the studios was specified as having the two beds and FL law prevented the developer from changing that.
