OKW pool vote

I have read that there has been past debate about the addition of a slide and lifeguard at the main pool at OKW. I have also read that only 30% of those polled agreed with adding a slide. What I wonder is, when was the vote? And who did they ask -- only OKW owners or DVC folks overall? Did they give any idea of the possible dues increase to which a slide might contribute? How did you vote and when did they release the results? Will they ever ask again?

It surprises me that only a third voted "yes" for the pool improvement and so I am curious.

There was a vote a few years back. How I understand it, not everyone that owned OKW points were allowed to vote. We were all told about it, but votes were sent out to a percent of owners, randomly. They thought this was a fair way of seeing if there was enough interest in upgrading the pool w/slide. It would have made a difference of about a dollar in our monthly dues, if I remember right. It was voted down.

It wasn't really a "vote" but a random survey of members. They asked several questions to get a feel for what the members want. I remember hearing another question involved more bus service, that was a no too. I think the "pay as you play" plan (paying for extra towels, etc) was first asked about on the survey and was implemented. The results were not binding, DVC management has the final say.

There are survey results presented in VM vol. 7, No 2, 1998, pg 4.

It doesn't say anything about the OKW pool but it does cover the other issues. The survey results are printed as an article, not as a table. Basically here's what it says:

The results were first shared with members at the Dec 1997 Annual meeting.

The survey was actually conducted during Autumn, 1997

It was mailed to the entire Member base at the time, over 26,000 members.

They had a response rate of 56%.

65% preferred to retain the current policies of Point Banking as well as the current reservation cancellation policies.

Members responded to impose costs on individual members requesting services rather than across the entire member base. Survey results for doing this were 68% said charge members for additional amenities, 53% said charge for additional towels, 79% said charge when members request changing accommodations.

The report doesn't say anything at all about the pool at OKW, but I remember taking the survey and I'm pretty sure the pool question was on this survey. But the years do wear on the brain and maybe it was a different survey.

I did look through the other VMs but didn't see anything.
