i am trying okw for the first time mid january. i had a small amount of points expiring and decided to try a studio at okw because of the 2 queen beds.its 2 adults a 5 and 7 year old.

but now im not sure because the pool is closed?can you even swim in january?

There are several pools at OKW. They won't all be closed. You will most likely also be able to use a feature pool at another resort and there will probably also be transportation to that pool. Also, if you are a DVC member, you can legally hop to several other pools - your children may enjoy the pools at PO.

January weather is variable. It may be too cold and it may be just great for swimming. Obviously, you won't know until much closer to your trip. Might depend on where you are from - some of us from the northern states think it's warm enough to swim as long as the water isn't frozen. ;) :teeth: Kids tend to be more tolerant of cold weather for swimming than most of us adults - they are cold but won't admit it because swimming is so much fun for them. I've taken kids with chattering teeth out of pools while they are loudly protesting that they are not too cold to stay.

Should I try to switch resorts? I dont think pool hopping will work for us because the kids tend to swim for short periods. But I am not sure whats available at this point? And I wanted to try okw-the 2 queen beds sound appealing.lol

As mentioned, there are multiple pools right at OKW. If you have HH category booked you would be closest to the main pool which will be closed but if you are not in the HH category you will be closer to one of the other pools. There are not slides at them but for a quick swim they are perfect. They all do have hot tubs too. So if the quick swim is the norm and being that it is January and often too chilly - at least for adults! - to swim I'd just stay at OKW and get the 2 beds that interest you.

At OKW we have always just used the pool closest to us.

Like others said, there will be other pools and the weather varies. My 5 and 7 year old would want to swim and would want a pool with a side. In my case I would change resorts. If swimming and having a slide is not that important to your kiddos than you'll be fine at OKW with the other pools.

I got the dreaded "Welcome home" letter. I am upset because I had to wait list to get the two nights at OKW.

I'm upset because we initially were going to waitlist for a different resort. But then we got lazy and said "To heck with it, we'll just stay at OKW" But now, knowing this, I wish we HAD waitlisted and we've already lost 3 months of "waitlist time". And we were at WDW last January, and you CAN swim, although maybe the fact that DH had run the Dopey and had sore muscles gave him extra incentive.
