OKW people -"Fanatical"?

We hadn't stayed at OKW for over two years. We did BCV, SSR, VWL and liked them all. When we walked into our two bedroom just over a week ago (we got back yesterday), I looked at my husband, he looked at me and we both just smiled. Ahhhhh, OKW, yeah. It really IS home.

Now if we can just keep the others from finding out our secrets, we'll get to keep OKW just for us "fanatics".

I would have to say it is more a tolerate it feeling in our family when it comes to OKW LOL. We like the room size and the points used htere but we don't like the retiremnt home feeling of the place. The new pool slide should hopefully help fill that void that is felt by many staying at OKW from other resorts. Our family loves BWV and all it has to offer especially the hustle and bustle we didn't care for VWL either is was just a different version of OKW at a higher point per night cost and smaller rooms. We are looking foreward to trying SSR our newest home next year and really looking and hoping to see Contemp on the DVC map.

Well DH's aunt owns at OKW and they have decided to come with us in Sept. So we are going to switch our ressie to OKW at 7 months. Then we will get to see why you people are so fanatical.

We purchased OKW in 1992 and love it.

Just wondering, the OKW "fanatic's" that purchased in the early year's. How long did it take you to call the resort OKW and not The Vacation Club?

wasn't that a fun time - do you know that they changed the resort name over night and forgot to tell the guests at the time.

lots of problems because the guests were looking for DVC (Disney Vacation CLub) not Old Key West....

we arrived the week after the change and it was still funny - lots of people got lost....bad me - that was not funny....

It took me around 6 months - how long for you?

It took us a lot longer. I'd say a year or so, we were only vacationing once a year back then. I quess we were fighting it mentally

But now our family's moto is "Old Key West is the BEST". Don't get me wrong, we love all the DVC resorts. Each for a different reason. We own at three, OKW, BWV and VWL. But there is alway something special about your first .

it is a beautiful, lush oasis of calm in the crazy World, the best place to come home to after a long Disney day. If you "get" Old Key West, you want to defend it to the non-believers. Perhaps this is the nature of the fanaticism.

We bought at OKW last year and have made 2 trips so far. This last trip was at the BWV, and both DH and I said how we couldn't wait to go back to OKW on our next trip. There is just a calming feeling when there and I love that feeling!!!

Cool about Rich's ashes being spread at OKW. I think that's great.

RE: fanatical? there is no doubt in my mind that on the whole, OKW people are a unique, fanatical bunch.
