OKW Owners -- How About Another Poll?

We are relatively new owners who purchased OKW because of its value (low cost, large condo style units and low maintenance fees); to use as a primary resort for one trip per year and to stay elsewhere for one trip per year (other DVC and other Disney resorts). We probably will not use the other collections (non-Disney).

We also purchased BCV and added on there to ensure an 11 month window for a 1 bedrm for one week during the Fall to Mid December period (sometimes choice, sometimes adventure).

We voted fairly new owner choice in the poll.

Are these poll results what people anticipated?

In another thread a poster raised the issue of OKW owners staying at other resorts, this poll sure seems to support that poster's stance.

We make so many "short-notice" reservations, we often times just take whatever is available. And, believe it or not, it's not always OKW!

I had no idea what to anticipate. From the 65 out 25,000 members who voted, It seems as if there is a pretty good balance. The number who use OKW exclusively is matched by the number who do not use OKW. The vast majority use the DVC program to it's fullest, having a favorite resort but taking advantage of using the other resorts as well. (The participants in this poll is pretty low, too. The two pool polls had 175 and 135 votes.)

You always think of things after posting a poll -- I should have found a way to clarify use of OKW points exclusively. I didn't provide a clear option for people who own at multiple resorts and combine their points.

Polls are always difficult to word to include everyone, Pam. I too think your results are about what I would expect. I still don't understand why anyone CARES if I only stay at OKW or use the benefit of staying elsewhere. We all have our prefernces.
Since most polls should have a nice bell curve to them, it looks like this one does.

We've owned for only 3 years, so I consider myself a "fairly new owner staying at OKW but also trying out other resorts". I believe, as presented to us by DVC, that being able to use all the DVC and Disney resorts with points was an attractive selling point for us. As a Member, I've stayed at OKW twice (booking a 3rd stay there for 11/04) and BWV once. Used points to cruise in 2002 too.
If you count cash basis (prior to becoming DVC Members), I've stayed at OKW one additional time and Vero once. I chose the "but trying other resorts" option, because truthfully, I'd really like to stay at VWL once or twice in the future. Honestly, this is my fav resort---has been for many years---and we would have made it our "home" resort had it been offered. And truthfully, VWL is the only other DVC resort we would have considered making our home resort given the chance. But we are extremely happy with OKW and would have no regrets if using other DVC resorts was ever withdrawn. I will admit the addition of a slide at OKW makes it slightly more appealing to us. I have kids who do value their pool time and really enjoyed the slide at BWV (and other Disney resorts)----yes---we have been known to utilize our pool-hopping perk on occassion

We bought OKW right when they started offering BWV. Until last year OKW has always been our preferred resort. Then we had to go and buy BCV. Now that's where my husband wants to stay every trip. Right now we are in opposition. In May I would love to stay at OKW, but we have reservations at BCV so far. But that may all change when I call today. Because we have decided to have my MIL and daughter join us early and we have to switch to a 2-bedroom. If BCV doesn't have one available then maybe I'll get my way and stay at OKW. Unfornunately, my husband knows about the waitlist. Next year it is OKW all the way! We are having DH's entire family joining us and we will need a GV and a 2-bedroom.

Personally, I find these poll results to be very different than the strong statements made in this thread:

I think the Original Poster had a much, much stronger point than given credit for by the replies given, and this poll helps support the points the original poster was making. Perhaps an apology is in order from a couple of posters in light of these results. People can decide that for themselves, just my observation.

This is a hard question to answer for us...

We have a total of 430 OKW points as well as 300 BCV and 270 BWV points....

Our first contracts were the OKW points and we bought those for a couple of reasons...

1) my husband LOVES OKW... the golf course, the large units, parking outside the unit.... and more... it was our first venture into the world of DVC.

2) I found two unbelieveble resale contracts that were FULLY loaded AND under 64 per point (including closing) Thanks Jackie! So in part, our discision (sp) to buy resale OKW was due to its cost and Dues... but we also bought because we loved it.

We have stayed (so far) OKW (first trip, cash) HH, BWV, BWV, OKW, VWL(which was a last minute trip, booked 37 days out and VWL had the 2 bedroom availible) and have two trips (so far) booked for HH and OKW/VB.

SO that is OKW 3 BWV 2 HHI 2 VWL 1 VB 1

Now I cant say for sure which points I have used for which stays... I think for the trip to OKW this Feb, I am using BCV points, since we were out of OKW points....

I guess this puts in the fairly new, want to try all the resorts catagory.... (and members who are happy about the pool)

We bought our points where we want to stay, so we have 3 home resorts, but still take advantage of the other resorts while we can.

Since the thread you highlighted is quite lengthy, I am not sure what you mean.

If I am staying in a 1-bedroom or up - then OKW.

Now I do have some points at BWV and VWL - but those are for studio use only.

It is always interesting to read these boards. We are just simply in love with OKW and almost always stay there. We have been members since 1993 and have only once stayed elsewhere. It is our ABSOLUTE favorite. Others that have come down with us also seem to like it the best. We have visited all of the others and always return to OKW. We used to stay at the POLY and we also love it there, but somehow we have become used to the spaciousness of OKW and have not even stayed there. I guess we are creatures of habit.

I still have nightmares from watching "Pet Cemetary" (sp?) as a teenager!
