OKW, Opinions

I can't believe it actually took 3 pages before the cat claws came out!!! Always makes for enjoyable saturday morning reading ....

RichYams ... LOVED the posts!! Absolutely LOVED em!!! :)

Bottom line: OKW rooms ARE bigger no matter WHAT anyone says - PERIOD! And as far as I'm concerned they are A LOT bigger! So true about the "one paper towel to clean the whole kitchen and dining room at BW or WL or BC etc.,!!! ;)

They are all fine resorts don't get me wrong - but to me that's another huge plus for OKW is parking your car in front of your unit instead of in a parking lot at the BW where you have to walk two miles to just reach the hotel and then we won't talk about the long walks to the room itself!!!

Hey to each his own - that's why I enjoy "renting" points as I absolutely hate the fact that you pay all this money, plus dues and you don't even get housekeeping! Now to me that is ridiculous - just ludicrous! I know when you have "regular" timeshares you don't get housekeeping either but comeon' -- this is DISNEY and I expect Disney to have a little higher standards, after all they don't mind charging an absolutely MUCH higher price than the normal timeshares ya know??

Anyway, let the bickerin' continue! I can see most people thrive on it!!! LOL ANd the truth is, it's not going to matter one way or another and hey - let's try and keep our secret of oKW being the best so it doesn't start bookin up like crazy!!! :)

Opinions are like Butts...... Everybody has one, but they usually both stink.

My hubby says you have just cleared it up for this family, that he has not been farting all these years, just expressing his opinion.

:)

We have all apologized for giving him so much grief and will try and be more tolerant. Thank for for this assessment.

Sorry if I offended, I moderated the "bad" word myself. I can't keep up with which words you're not allowed to say anymore. I'll write that one down so I remember. As for lack of class, ouch! Saying a word thats not politically correct because I missed the last meeting on which ones we're no longer allowed to say, shouldn't make me classless. I'll have my kids proof read my next posts .Sorry again.

Cosmic Charlie,
If you want a 5 star resort then BWV is definitley what you are looking for. BWV has fantastic amenities, you will feel spoiled and pampered to the fullest.
You are correct OKW is a condo resort with no amenities. But it is a fact that they have large rooms and you can park at your door. Once you have parked your own car and you get yourself and all your luggage & groceries that you have carried yourself into the large room, then you are on your own. You will certainlly not be bothered by anyone such as room service, valet parking, luggage services, you will not have to deal with the horrors of restaurants, counter service stands, clubs, shops and entertainment right outside your door. You also will not have to endure those pesky parks that are within walking distance from your villa and you will not have to put up with a themed pool and the sounds of happy children using the pool slide or the horrible sights and sounds of Illuminations fireworks, boardwalk midway games or those awful tourists strolling the boardwalk. You will have to put up with watching golfers though if you decide to sit on your spacious balcony and in the morning, if you are lucky, you can even watch them clean/prep the sand traps! Also don't forget extra rolls of paper towels that you will need to clean your large kitchen, you can get these from housekeeping but with such a large unit you might want to have extras on hand!

Dave,
"I think everyone should love where they go. I am tired of running down the other resorts that goes on here. "

Agreed!!

Magical Princess,
Since you "rent" points I would think you would be able to pay for the daily maid service, or you can take the extra paper towels, as per DeeP"s suggestion,( thanks DeeP),and spend the EXTRA time cleaning your LARGER rooms. Disney does in fact have high standards, it's just that many members don't care to have daily housekeeping and don't want to pay for something that isn't necessary. I do like the service, I am willing to pay for it, and don't resent other members NOT paying higher dues just for me. I am happy that I have the option to have the daily cleanings.

Nice Post;)

OK a newcomer to break up the discussion... We have a 1 bedroom at OKW in June for 5 days then to ASMO(the kids will love it) for 2 days. Do we really need a car at OKW??????
We plan on taking a cab for any special dinner outings, but will be at the parks each am, back to rest, then out again each pm. Advice greatly needed and much appreciated 2 boys 4 & 5 with us!:Pinkbounc

We always enjoy using the bus transportation when at OKW (or any other resort for that matter). It can take a little adjustment to figure out a practical schedule (ask any bus driver- they are always happy to assist) for each park, but the buses do work well. We think of them as just another attraction- usually with a much shorter wait then those in the parks! ;)

Have a great stay at OKW!

Enjoy!

Its just that my associates and I are used to 5 star resorts with world class services. I just think that they were looking for something a little less homey. To them, it is not a world class property without concierge service etc.

If your friend's definition of world class is concierge service, then none of the DVC resorts will satisfy them, as none offer concierge.

As for the "homey" feel, all of the DVC villas are essentially the same layout as the pictures you saw of OKW. They each have different decor and sizes vary a little, but all have kitchens and washer/dryers and the amenities seen in the photo. That's why Disney classes all of the DVC resorts as "Home Away From Home".

All onsite DVC resorts besides OKW have interior hallways, but even OKW offers Bell Service for those unable to carry luggage to their room. That service is NOT exclusive to the other resorts.

None of the DVC resorts have a restaurant inside the hotel. You must go outside in order to enter a restaurant, but BWV and VWL do offer room service.

I hope you find your stay enjoyable, wherever you decide to go! There are no bad options, just different! ;)

Enjoy!

We bought into BWV and stayed there last July (going again this June). We love BWV. It's where the party is. The rooms are great, the property is great. We love it. However, we stayed at OKW in December for the first time and loved it there too. The rooms were very nice, the property very nice (more walking though - the internal buses are few and far between) We felt the biggest difference was the atmosphere. OKW was very laid back and relaxing. At BWV, there's more to do - but it's louder. I would never consider OKW a cesspool, though. The property is lovely. My kids really enjoyed the pool area, too. GF is just not an option for us - this family of 5 likes the spacious rooms of the Home away from Home resorts. It was a beautiful place to visit, though.
