Cosmic_Charlie I am sitting here laughing at some people who do not understand OKW. I was one of them. We joined DVC last May. For our first trip home in Nov we were orignally not able to get our home VWL. We were concerned about OKW because it is the oldest of DVC resorts and my DW has allergies. I asked all kinds of questions here and DVCReg answered our questions. I took pics of the OKW studio and 1 bedroom which we stayed in both. All I can say is I will stay in that cesspool over alot of places I have been before. It is not a hotel. It reminds me of as a kid we use to rent a floor of homes at the New Jersey shore. Full kitchens and all in 1 and 2 bedrooms. So here are my pics of the cesspools. Just having fun with the name.

Again, I am sorry, I didnt mean to offend anybody with this post. Its just that my associates and I are used to 5 star resorts with world class services. I just think that they were looking for something a little less homey. To them, it is not a world class property without concierge service etc. I thought the pictures made it look great. It remindes me of an apartment or Condo. You all have been VERY helpful as always. P.S. Its not a cesspool IMHO

You are exactly right about OKW. That is why we don't enjoy staying there either. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's a do-it-yourself vacation. Park your own car, haul your own luggage, make your own coffee ( because the closest cup of coffee is a ten minute walk, in the elements, too much work for me. I enjoy staying at a hotel when I am away, I like BWV, because it gives me that extra space,large jacuzzi tub, but it's still a hotel. It is a 5 star resort.

Charlie I never took it personal and did not mean it that way. Every since I have visited here there is a strong I like BWV versus I like OKW and it is old. I was having more fun at the whole thing is silly to me. If you want to be waited on hand and foot DVC is not right for them.

Why do you feel that way? There is no reason that you cannot feel like you are being waited on hand and foot while staying at BWV, VWL and I would expect BCV. All are "hotel" atmosphere, all offer the usual full service amenties of the "Deluxe" resorts at Disney. It has been my experience that the very reasons I enjoy BWV are the reasons other's don't enjoy it, and that's just fine with me.

Ann I am sorry I did not say it right. I think everyone should love where they go. I am tired of running down the other resorts that goes on here. I have stayed at OKW and VWL(my home) and I am looking forward on trying BWV. I am more tired of the tearing down of others. I see advantages to each resort over the others. Most of the differences seems to be location more than anything else.

Of course we wouldn't deny you your opinion, even as ridiculous it may sound. Yes SOME feel Okw is better than the All-Stars, but not ALL of the moderate resorts. SOME feel It is better than the campgrounds, but not Wilderness lodge, SOME feel The Grand Floridian Blows it away, and you can't compare the Boardwalk and the Yacht and Beach club to Okw because they are completely different types of vacations. SOME feel that Okw is like a vistana type, out of the parks atmosphere, and the others are IN Disney. SOME feel, If you want to have a laid back, larger room, you can also stay at Vistana and the Orange Lake Country club, (which we prefer to Okw). YOU of all people should know by now, that size isn't everything! That's why the resorts outside of Disney, (like Okw, just kidding), don't advertise, "Hey, we have the largest rooms, we're better than the Disney resorts". People know.
Update for my Nov. trip, BW still sold out, okw wide open. I'm on a waiting list for a few more standard rooms.
SOME people believe what you do, it's their opinion, so it's right for them. Opinions are great, everyone has them, they're only right for them. Yours as funny as they come across are correct for YOU and Okw lovers, not everyone.

If you want the Ritz, better buy there. I can't think of any timeshare except maybe the Ritz that will meet the true 5* concierge, hotel expectations and that includes the Four Seasons, DVC, Marriott and Royals. You said it yourself, DVC, as are most timeshare are condos. They are designed to give more space, home type amenities and the like. Most do not offer daily maid service, many have no maid service at all, even if you're willing to pay extra. To me, the luxury a condo offers IS DIFFERENT but far outwieghs that of a concierge situation, at least for my family of 4. If the family size increases, the benefits increase as well. There are timeshares out there that offer more amenties than others including significant variation within DVC as well.

Actually, I didn't read your original note as you though OKW was bad, simply that others had told you it was and you wanted clarification.

Like I said earlier, my daughter says chuckie cheese is the best, the adults know to her it is, but to the adults, we know otherwise.

Anyway, isn't that reason we all joined DVC, because there are alot of choices and opportunities to stay in both the "homey" type resort w/ full kitchens and washer dryers or you can opt to stay in a "concierge" type of setting.
There are so many possibilities and options with being a member.I could never compalin about any of the accomadations that we have ever experienced.

It sounds as if some people are getting spoiled or jaded and should try booking a reservation at some other location. I recently stayed at Radisson resorts in both Kissimmee and Palm Beach and found them to be very inconsistent. I was longing for any DVC!! It Was then that my husband said to me," You did just buy MORE points didn't you?-Thank God!"

I have also been very satisfied w/ any concierge collection hotels where we have stayed.

It is a matter of opinion and fortunately we have choices.

Hey Cleveland it is true. The Yankees have the money, but not everyone can make it in the " House that Ruth Built". It really is THE place for baseball, although there are many other great stadiums as well. Its a gret game!

There are a lot of people that don't agree with my opinions on some things (wife sometimes, teenage son and daughters most of the time), and I don't think they're crazy. If you are a crazy person, I'm sorry I offended you.

When I say crazy, I mean silly, funny, nutty, etc... Not insane, so don't read too much into it.

No personal attack here, but come on. How 'bout we ask the moderaters to post the famous quote every first of the month:

I just have a comment about some earlier posts....

I have stayed at the GF a couple of times... the only time you get 5 star service is when you stay in the main building. The outer buildings are a different story. We were in Sago Cay last October and we did NOT feel like we were in a luxury hotel at all. In fact, it wasn't much different than our stay at CBR. It took 30 minutes for someone from the front desk to even come to our room! If you're looking for luxury and 5 star accomodations, you'll feel much more "pampered" in the RPC. (Royal Palm Club - GF main building)

When you have kids, especially more than one, a villa is the way to go. At the GF, with our 2 kids, we felt like prisoners. We had to tip toe around the room, couldn't watch TV, and had to just stay in bed and whisper to each other. Not fun. There was nowhere to park our double stroller, and we were in one of the largest rooms (lodge tower). The DVC was designed for families... parents who would like to have some privacy... be able to watch TV, have a few drinks, talk, take a jacuzzi, etc., while the kids sleep soundly in the other bedroom. Also we want to be able to fix snacks, warm baby bottles, wash clothes, and other things that parents do. We don't give one crap about concierge... we just want to relax!!

Whoever said OKW was a "cesspool" probably wasn't traveling with kids. If I was still single, or childless, I'd probably stick with resorts like the GF... but they just don't work for our family now.

So, in summary, the GF is not that great for families of 4 or more, and OKW is definitely NOT a cesspool.
