OKW - Oct 9th Booked Solid...Any Idea Why?

Just joined DVC and called today to make my first reservation. I was hoping to get a 2BR at OKW for the nights of Oct 5 through Oct 10. The reservationist at MS said she had double digit units available for every night requested except for Thu, Oct 9. She didn't have any 2BR (nor any Studios, I think she had a couple of 1BR). She checked to see if I could reserve that night for cash and then go on the waitlist for points, but she had no cash ressies available either.

She was stumped on why that night would be out of inventory. Any ideas why this night would be booked when there is so much availability on either side? Does Disney ever hold back blocks of rooms and then release them? I would prefer to go this week, but will probably just book for the week before instead if it doesn't look likely to be available, as I want to be able to book a good flight that's available now and am hesitant to wait too long.

(First post ever so apologize if I've violated any protocols!)

Oct 9th is Yom Kippur so many schools are closed that day and it is also one of the scheduled nights for the Halloween party at MK. I know we will at SSR from the 8th to the 13th since our kids are off the 9th, 10th & 13th for Yom Kippur and Columbus Day.

Weekends are often easier to get - but with a holiday weekend, F&W and the Halloween party, you are possibly getting a lot of crossover Thursday night - i.e. - people staying Sunday and checking out Friday to save points then people checking in Thursday to stay Thursday through Sunday for the weekend.

We are staying at OKW 2bdr 10/4 -10/11, we booked at about 6 months out and MS said they were getting low on inventory for that week. I picked october because I was hoping for slightly cooler weather, and shorter lines, but seems like that is a high time for DVC so hopefully the rest of the resorts are empty.

Even though September to mid-December (except Jersey and Thanksgiving weeks) are slower times at the World, they are never slow with DVC. We've been OKW owners since 1996 and go every October and find OKW pretty full every trip due to F&W and MNSSHP events. Also we've noticed that OKW is not the last to sell out like it used to be. SSR is usually the last place available when we do short notice trips. I figure that OKW with the cheaper point schedule trumps the equal sized, similarly located, and pricier points-wise SSR in people's choice list these days.

I'm arriving on Oct 9th and I could not get my ADR's that I wanted.

I lucked out with a cash ressie at BWV that weekend before my WLV stay.
I think with the holiday weekend(Columbus Day) along with Yom Kippur on Oct 9....Lots of people are going to be going to WDW that week because 2 days of school out. I know thats why I picked it:rolleyes:
Good luck with a waitlist.
