OKW New Appliances?

Does anyone know the schedule for appliance replacements at OKW? We just returned from room 3121 - 1bdrm (wonderful view BTW), but the appliances needed replacement (mainly the dryer and stove). As abused as these items were, you have to wonder what people do in their own homes! I had assumed before check-in that the rehab was finished. The furniture was new/recovered and mattresses were replaced, the carpet was good (except for a wrinkle - it needed to be re-stretched). The building is the first on the right when you turn onto Turtle Pond. The appliances worked, but the dryer was VERY noisy and the left rear burner on the stove was disconnected. The fridge, dishwasher, and clothes washer were OK. We called maintenance and they worked on the dryer, but it was still so noisy we had to close both doors to the laundry room to carry on a conversation.

Other than the appliances, the room was very clean and housekeeping had done a wonderful job.

At the OKW annual meeting, they explained that the replacement of appliances was complete for the "Phase 1" buildings (#11-29) and will be continued for phase two. Also, replacement of TV's and exchanging VCR's for DVD players will begin in January. Safes will also be added to studio accommodations in 2003.

DVD players? Great news, Doc! Safes in the studios will be nice, although we've never had any problems!

Chuck, we were in building 31 in July, 1st floor dedicated 2 bedroom, forget the room number. (They do have great views.. ) I know exactly what you mean about the appliances.. We used the dryer one evening and it was SOOO loud. You couldn't hear the TV over it in the Master Bedroom. The Dishwasher in our unit was falling apart as well, wheels off the bottom shelf, louder than loud.. It really does make you wonder about the hard use these units take over the years... Our washer and dryer at home are probably older than the ones in unit 31 and they are no where near as loud.. None of these little things effected our vacation, just made me wonder when they were scheduled to be replaced.

Just an observation ... the washers & dryers I have used at OKW were GE brand. Can we say corporate partnership ? From my experience GE appliances are reliable for the most part, but they tend to be louder than other brands I have used.

Judith, I've had a GE dryer, and yes, they are a little louder than other brands. I wasn't talking about the normal tumbling noise...it was a loud, shrill, "nails-on-a-blackboard" type squeek that could also be heard outside the unit, and a large portion of the "graniteware" type stuff had been worn off the drum. Like I said, they worked, and it didn't ruin our trip. I had just assumed after reading the boards that all the appliances had already been replaced, and I was amazed at how much abuse those units must take on a continual basis.

We just got back from room 4132, and it too had a non-functioning left rear burner. Wonder if it's a conspiracy?

Our washer and dryer (in the room) were both loud by our standards, but we do have a front-loading washing machine at home-home. Front loaders tend to be much quieter than top loaders, especially since they don't really 'unbalance' and bang around the way top loaders can. The only other issue we had with the laundry was that the area behind the w/d really needed to be cleaned. Lots of lint and stuff people dropped behind the unit.

The only other issue we had seen was the icemaker tray spilled ice out of the tray before it could rise to the top and push the bar up to stop the making process.

eeeewwww! Yuck! I would have definitely called engineering & reported it like you did. This is exactly what I have been trying to say over & over again on this bb. When a member finds a problem, let someone know about it so it can be fixed. Now the next guest in room 3121 will have a dryer that works & does not sound like "nails-on-a-blackboard." Thank you!

It is one thing to come home & ask here about the appliance schedule, but another thing if, after they get home, someone complains/whines about the dryer, but did nothing to let someone know (pick up the phone, leave a note, stop by the front desk, etc., etc.).

Just back from Building 27. All new GE appliances in place. Was hoping they might be early with the DVD players but no go.
