Hi All....

My husband will be enjoying a short ( very short ) jaunt to OKW Feb 22,23 and 24.. I just have a few questions as we have not stayed there yet....

I will not be having a car...is there any particular building to request to be closest to the transportation ?? Does it really make a difference ??

Also we won't be arriving till later on Sun...Probably around 7 or 8. I plan to just go to dinner at DTD that night....is there a boat to take us ?? Or would a bus be the better way to go ??

Thanks a head of time....
I need to try to make the most of this short little getaway !!

OKW is quite large, and there are many bus stops, but the closest area to the restaurant and transportation and check-in would be a building in the 60's, such as 62, 63,64, or even16. The buildings numbered 11-14 are right across the street, but many people who use the facilities across the street at the pool park in your parking lot, so it can be busy with people and traffic there. They also have VERY shady balconies with a lot of vegetation, and if you don't like bugs, this might not be a good choice.

There is both bus and boat transportation to DTD. Sometimes the boat isn't running, though, so check before you go stand at the dock. If you are not planning to go off-property, you won't need a car, the buses are pretty quick. Hopefully, you will have warm weather when you go, so that you will be able to enjoy the pool and hot tub. Good luck!:smooth:

I don't know if others would agree, but we really liked building 24 when we stayed there (October 2002). It was just a short walk across the bridge to HH, Olivia's and the pool, and the bus stop was right in front. Worked well for us.:Pinkbounc

I really don't think there is a truely BAD spot for transportation, since most buildings are close to one or another of the bus stops. I would suggest you only request a smoking preference (if that is important to you) and any specifics like close to bus stop, top or bottom floor etc. We usued to request an area, but lately we just take our chances, and we don't ever have a problem. We do like the South Point area, so sometimes I will request near that. That is the area close to the walkway to DTD, and makes the 10 minute walk easier. The pontoon to DTD is fun and runs about every half hour, but the buses go there too. We find walking from South Point to be the fastest way to DTD, unless you have a car to drive.

The DD boat drops off by Rainforest Cafe. Sometimes, there's a different boat that shuttles back and forth from the Marketplace to the West Side --- if that boat isn't running, it's quite a walk to HOB, Wolfgang Puck's and Bongo's. The OKW boat doesn't run very late, but you can always catch a bus back.

There is really no inconvenient building as far as bus transportation is concerned. Your maximum walk to a bus stop will be under 2 minutes. If bus noise is a factor I would stay away from building 20 & maybe 21. The bus stops across from building 19 and then turns around in the parking lot of building 20 & 21. With about 6 different buses running all I heard was the squeal of brakes and acceleration every few minutes all day long. We were in room 2025. The other bus turn around spot is near building 40 & 44 and in the parking lot in front of building 51 & 52. I have no personal experience with bus noise at these locations. We have stayed at buildings 11,20, 63, and 27 and only #20 was noisy. Probably due to the turn around. Good luck.

The nice thing about buildings in the same area as #24 is that you get two chances to catch the bus. One on its way in towards Turtle Pond Road and another on its way out. I have tried to get this area a few times - but was unsuccessful.

just where does the walkway at OKW by building 52 start to get to DTD. Is it on the map? And someone said it's a 10 min walk, is this right?

Trail (paved path)starts at end of street at building 55. It follwoes the canal. There were small signs last time we were there. No lights at night along the trail. Would not suggest using it after dark. There is little public contact and no inhabited buildings along the way and the trail ends at a large parking lot for Dowtown Disney right near the Cirque Du Soleil Theater. Would not suggest kids or young ladies use it on their own. I gues I am just a cautious parent who has worked in public safety too may years. 10-15 walk depending on how fast you walk.
