OKW "Medical Building"

We made reservations yesterday for OKW in October. We requested the HH area and we are on the waiting list. We then requested buildings 15 or 63 for the short walk to HH. We were told that 15 and 63 are "medical buildings". I know that 63 has elevators but nothing about 15. I also never heard anything about the need to have a special medical condition to get into these buildings. Has anyone ever had this experience?

Never heard that before, but doesn't mean it isn't true. 63 would have an elevator, but not 15. I wouldn't consider 15 to be close to any bus stops according to my map although I have never stayed in it and it certainly is "far" from a bus stop either.

Seems kind of weird to me.

ETA: Neither building has any lock-offs according to my notes.

15 doesn't have any HCA villas. 63 does have HCA villas in addition to having elevators (62 and 64 also have elevators).

15 isn't too far from the bus stop, but many buildings are closer. All buildings at OKW have lock-off villas (there are no Dedicated Studios or 1BRs). Both 15 and 63 have GVs but I'm not aware of any "Medical" denotation for any buildings.

Buildings 13, 23,26 (all in the HH category) and 20, 21, 27 and 28 all have HCA villas on the ground floor, in addition to 63 which has some on upper floors (including a GV). Other Buildings with HCA villas include 34, 42, 48 and 50.

Strange, since 15 is a GV building (one of our favorite GV buildings I might add), and there are NO handicapped accessible units in that building. Then 1st floor units in that building will be on the first floor BUT, they will be under the GVs, and I never consider that a good thing. LOTS more noise if you have GVs above you with the wood floors and lots of extra people.

We’ve been members of DVC at OKW since 1993 and have had a child in a wheelchair since before we became members.
We have been in accessible villas with roll in showers for about the past 10 years and have never heard of “Medical Buildings” at OKW.
We have actually requested building 63, but recently have ended up most of the time in building 20 or 21.

Never heard of the term "medical buildings" before at OKW, the only information we have relates to "Handicap Access (H.A.)" buildings that have accessible rooms for those guest who require roll-in showers, handrails etc.

These rooms we think are within buildings 13, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 34, 42, 48, 50 and 63 which is the only handicap access building with an elevator.

Priority will therefore be given to those who require roll-in showers, etc in building 63. As for building 15, I would contact member services again to recheck what you were told.

This is likely just the CM way of saying what we've known for some time, that they do hold certain buildings, normally 62-64, for medical type access requests. I doubt 15 is included in that group but it could be now.

That's interesting what you say about all buildings have lockoffs. I totally believe you, but I have notes from a call I made to MS years ago about which buildings have lock-offs and she only gave me buildings 13, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 34, 42, 48, 50 and 39. I have it on the map (the notes) that came in the 3 ring binder; I have no idea how old it is as I threw out the rest of the materials except the map, points tracking sheet and the binder. I did look at the tracking sheet and have point notes from 1999.

So now I am wondering about my notes and why someone from MS would tell me this. I think the reason I asked was that we needed a lock-off once when we had family with us. I know we stayed in 23 with a lock-off with the IL's.

All one bedrooms and studios at OKW are part of a lock-off unit (there are no dedicated studios or one bedrooms), and all buildings have studios and one bedrooms.

Therefor, all buildings have some lock-off two bedroom units.

That's not correct. All studios and 1 bedrooms are lockoffs at OKW. If lockoffs were just in those buildings, those would be the only buildings with studios & 1 bedrooms, which is not true. All buildings have studios & 1 bedrooms, which are all lockoffs.

I agree that what you say is correct. I'm just wondering now why I have it written so specifically and why I would have been told this. Could it be that maybe those buildings are ones with dedicated 2 bdrms and I wrote it incorrectly? I am truly perplexed as to why I have this written down now. I haven't needed or used the info or even thought about it but noticed it was written in my notes. I'm just so confused now:confused3

All buildings at OKW also have dedicated 2BR villas as well as lock-offs. In fact, all OKW buildings have dedicated 2BRs as well as lock-off 2BRs (Studios and 1BRs) on the ground floor. However, only buildings 15,16,19,22,25,29,43,48,49,51,53 and 63 have GVs.

It looks like your list is for buildings with HCA villas - those are 13, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 24, 42, 48, 50 and 63. (I still don't know why 39 would be on your list though as it does not have HCA villas.)

Here is a complete description for the building configuration at OKW - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=146435 .

Thanks Doc :thumbsup2 I appreciate the info. I really can't imagine why MS would have given me those buildings or why I would have written it down. Have never needed an HCA room so I can't imagine that I asked. Must have been a mistake on MS's part. Who knows. Atleast now I can change my notes, not that I hope to ever need that info.
