After searching this forum, I read that all of the units were to get new mattresses to replace the rock hard slabs that were there. For those who have stayed at OKW since the renovations were complete, how were your mattresses? Does anyone know if ALL of the units did, in fact, get new mattresses?

Thanks

We just stayed at OKW this past weekend and the mattress was very comfortable. I am not a good judge of firm vs. soft, but it did not feel old hard.

and rehab or no rehab we have never had an issue with the mattresses but the new pillow tops are nice...we are usually so tired when we get home that falling asleep is not an issue!

The only thing I did not enjoy about our stay at OKW last year in an unrenovated unit was the rock hard bed. :sad2: So I too, want to know if all were replaced.

My wife says that the mattress was "a firm pillowtop." All I know is I snored a lot. Hopefully that's a helpful description. :)

I still don't know what all you people are talking about. I've never had a bad mattress at OKW or BCV. Never. Even on the old sleeper sofa. I guess I'm just tired at the end of the day and don't notice it.

Same here. We have never had an issue with an OKW mattress in either a villa or a studio.

We stayed in a renovated room 3 weeks ago and the mattress was great. My kids also like the new sleeper chair, it was nice to have the kids in seperate beds.:cool1::cool1:

Thanks for all your replies. We have been members of OKW since 1994 and the beds have been great up until the last couple years. Last year we brought memory foam pads from home. It sounds like we won't have to take the pads again for our upcoming trip.

Thanks again.

They were a firm Simmons latex foam. High end in 1992, but then pillow tops and memory foam took over.

IMHO, I think latex foam is ideal for "back-only sleepers" (it feels good to lay on a floor every now and then). But something that firm can be brutal to a "stomach sleeper".

I used to love everything about an OKW stay except for the hard mattresses. It was usually fine for the first night or two, but after that ... wow, a really hard mattress. We were just there in March, and the new mattresses are MUCH better!

I'm with you, in the dozens of trips to OKW I have never had bed issues. Of course I'm usually are so tired I fall asleep the first place I land.

Glad to hear the matresses have been replaced. After our stay in 2009 my wife said never again. We are staying there in July, so looking forward to giving the new beds a try.

Earlier I posted that I've never had issues with the OKW beds. I wasn't exactly truthful. The renovated master suites have taken a turn for the worse. Before the renovations they had iron bed frames with a headboard and footboard. Now its just a headboard. No more traction. :guilty:

Have to respectfully disagree ... we didn't even notice that it was different and it wasn't even a blib on our radar screen.

Really? How can I say this tactfully? I couldn't think of a better descriptor than "traction" with the footboard. Alas, a labor of love (nudge, nudge. wink, wink).

I thought thats what you were referrring to. Lucky you, we are generally to tired or too many people with inquiring minds around for any of that.:rotfl:
