OKW lovers--Tell me not to stay somewhere else

Took the tour in Oct 92 and paperwork completed in Feb 93. It was the Disney Vacation Club back then and will always be my favorite. Like walking out of the room and being in a garden. It is what I always liked about Dixie Landings Alligator Bayou walking out into the gardens.

Whenever we go as a family we stay in a two bedroom which give you a huge amount of space for 4 people. When my wife and I go we stay at other resorts (WLV and SSR) in a one bedroom and both work out well. You are always close to the outside in both those resorts. As you can tell I am not a hotel person, staying at a lot of hotels on the company $$. We visited Kidani village and there were miles of corridors. If you had a room at one of the ends it could take days  to walk to the lobby. You could get your daily exercize just walking from one end to the other and back - no need for a gym!

This next trip will be our first as a family where we will stay at another resort. We are trying a tree house since that has been a fantasy of mine since I first came to Disneyworld. They were always too expensive and now I can actually stay there for the price of a two bedroom at SSR:yay::yay:

Old Key West is the best!! Unless you like room service and corridors.

I did notice that about the beds at OKW. I had previously only stayed at SSR, Allstar Music and the Pop. At OKW we stayed in a studio. We figured that we were on the meal plan, so we didn't need the kitchen. Mistake. Not enough privacy. The way the bathroom is set-up, more like a regular hotel, we had issues. The bathroom would get SOOO hot and steamy. There wasn't an exhaust fan to turn on. I had to shower, open the door. Use the hair dryer to dry the mirror (in a robe), then shut the door to get dressed. It wouldn't have been such a problem if DS17 wasn't with us. However, without the washer/dryer combo our bath towels were perpetually wet. Towels just would not air dry at OKW. I think the difference is the dark rooms. At SSR our studio was much lighter and we didn't have a problem with wet towels. At OKW, our room was so dark because the foliage surrounding the patio blocked the light completely!! I've never seen plants like that with leaves the size of satelite dishes! We were at the end of the resort and we had no sidewalks to walk on to get to the bus. there was a sidewalk around one of the other buildings, but once we passed it, we had to walk in the road. We don't have that problem at SSR. I do not know if the sidewalk situation is endemic to the whole resort or just the section we stayed in. SSR is very sidewalk friendly. I probably wouldnt' stay there again even though I like the resort overall. Olivia's is great too. OKW's shop has more merchandise than SSR's. I really love SSR though. I do some day want to try BWV or BCV.

The thing that everyone likes about OKW, is what I don't like about OKW. Too quiet and deserted for me. I like to "people watch" so not much of a chance to do that in your secluded, tree covered villa. Only stayed in a studio, but it sounds like we need to try the 1BR to compare it to our home resort, BWV.

We love the location of BWV and the ability to walk to 2 parks, as well as the entertainment at night.

To each his own, I guess. DVC has something for everyone.

I own points at BWV for the BW view (but most points are OKW) and have stayed a few times. More often than not though, I book OKW at 7 months with them because we quite simply prefer it :).

I've also stayed at WL (not the villas) and thought it not worth the money to me. I'm happy with a short visit there and a walk around and perhaps a meal.

OP, good luck with your decision .... as said above, DVC has something for everyone, but it's OKW for me ... and I LOVE those firm beds too :thumbsup2
