OKW location recommendations

Hi, we are staying in a studio at OKW in August. We'd like to be near a quiet pool and have a pretty, calming view from the balcony/terrace -- any suggestions for which building we should ask for? Thanks!

The bad news first is that a lot of the studio units have very bad views or some might say none at all. They are on the side of the buildings and at least the ones on the first floor are usually engulfed with some kind of bushes, trees, brush etc. The good news is no matter where you stay at OKW you are near a pool and bus stop. I would suggest a unit on Turtle Pond Road that way you will be near a quiet pool or the South Point area again quiet pool. I have been a member there since 95 and have never requested location, there really is no bad. Have fun.

Thanks for the info.
I have no clue about the layout of the resort. We were there in February and were really close to the check-in area (which some people might think is good for the convenience) but I actually think I'd like to be further away from that this time. Is there a Web site that has a resort map/layout I can check out?

While it's true that there are a few first floor studios and villas where the patio is surrounded by vegetation, there are still many, many studios and villas with wonderful views of a pond, canal or golf course.

Here is a <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=1251562#post1251562">OKW Configuration report</a> that may help.

Here is a <a href="http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/OKWmap.jpg">map of OKW.</a>

Just request the view you'd enjoy and the resort staff will do their best to accommodate your wishes.

Have a great trip!

I have some room reports on OKW, but you'll have to wait a few more days. DH just installed a new computer, and he hasn't transferred my OKW files yet. I seem to remember that buildings #17 and 18 had some really nice views, and there's a pool near there. The bus turns around by buildings 51, 20, and 21 so some people have been bothered by bus noise there. Like I said, hopfully I'll have more info in a few more days, will post then.

Yep. I was in bldg 17 at OKW last month and the studio part of my two-bedroom had a lovely view of the golf course, and the quiet pool was just around the corner. It was on the second floor, no elevator. The bus stop was very close, too.

I like building 55 or 18 - 2nd floor or higher.

the studios units that are on the first floor - that aren't handicapped are generally located near (try next to) the air conditioner units....not an attractive view - beats the service area at VWL....

You might want to try to avoid 5310. When we checked in at 9 am, we asked to be in a quiet location. We didn't care about the view (which also turned out to be non-existent anyway) but we did care about the noise.

The woman who checked us in said she'd found a room that we'd like, and when we were able to enter our room after 3 pm that afternoon we found that our window was just outside the bus stop! I tried to take a nap and couldn't sleep because of the almost constant noise of very loud buses starting and stopping. When we asked if we could be moved, the only 2 rooms available were both handicapped accessible and right next to the road noise of busy highways. Since these were not an improvement, we stayed where we were, but having just come from 2 nights at the peaceful, quiet CBR (which we loved) we were not thrilled with our first stay at OKW. From then on, we just tried to stay out of the room as much as possible, and fortunately when we went to bed (usually after 11 pm) we were fine.

So, the moral of the story is , don't worry about a view - just try to avoid being just outside bus stops, and right beside busy roads! ::MinnieMo
