OKW Going Up to $180 PP

Interesting. I wonder if you would have been allowed to actually do it. I have read a few reports over the years, about guides saying one thing and then not being able to follow through.

It happened to me in 2009…I was told I could buy under the minimum for a new UY and then it was denied once the paperwork went to QA.

It worked out, because we just decided to sell the resale contract that made us owners, and just bought above the minimum for BLT.

It might have been a Hail Mary on his part to get me to buy, but I didn't change it to 75 until he took my CC info. But to your point, it could have been denied down the road. We'll never know so I'll always say it was offered but asterisk on not being able to confirm it.

When Disney raises their prices, for DVC (or other things too) it does make me mad. But then I realize they have just raised the bar on DVC and now my ownership is worth more.

Yup doubtful I will ever want more points so works for me.

CCV also has millions of points from the Cabins that make it way worse than normal. It was a big cash cow for Disney. DVC has yet to build a DVC resort with the ideal ratio of studios, 1,2,3 bedrooms.

Personally RIV is very well balanced IMO.

Since you're stuck at the middle of the line, you're faced with full gondolas coming from Epcot, or full gondolas coming from CBR, HS, Pop Century, and AOA.

They send empty ones though. Downside is the merge with HS but as spacing got back more back to normal its picked up since its not the 1 party per gondola.

DVC Resale Market reported a 27% ROFR'd rate for OKW in August. And some OKW owners have reportedly gotten emails from DVC offering to buy back their contracts. I'm not surprised that the direct price went up.
The DVD buyback for OKW as of last month was $80-88 per point - the spread based on whether the contracts were stripped.

Resale for OKW has been considerably higher than that for sellers while the direct price was $170 and apparently going higher now.

I'll admit the increase to $180 made me push the panic button.

Last week I made a full offer on a OKW(E) at $145/pt with full 21 points. With seller paying 21 dues, it's $137/pt in my eyes. It should be high enough to pass, but we'll all find out 30 days from now.

I expect you'll still be fine. I doubt that the margin between $145 and $180 will ring a bell for DVD to take it - especially if yours is a 2042 expiration but even if it's 2057, the $35 spread doesn't leave much meat on the bone for them.

Good luck! :)

Personally RIV is very well balanced IMO.

I like Rivera, but I wouldn't call it balanced by any means. They purposely labeled the rooms facing Caribbean Beach "preferred view" so they could sell more points and it has a very inflated point chart to position it just slightly below VGF.

Its a view of the lake but in reality that has nothing to do with balanced that has to do with cost of the point chart. What was commented was the breakdown of Studios vs 1BR vs 2BR vs 3BR vs Alternative room types.

I wouldn't exactly say a Theme Park View from BLT over a parking lot, Boardwalk Pool View (highest point rooms), and others are exactly mapped correctly either.

Then you have certain resorts where you pay more for location on a large resort (SSR) or pay the same viewing a tree vs lake vs pool (CCV). Heck at CCV as an example you even have these basically 1br Studio style rooms people always try for as well.

True, but when we were there a few months back it still felt like Grand Central at 5:00 on Friday. Busier than it had been pre-pandemic (trip prior was in October of 2019 and that was only a month after the Skyliner opened). The transfer station at CBR was even worse (but at least it has bathrooms). I will admit, in February it did seem like a large percentage of riders getting off and on at Riviera were looky-loos who just got off to view the resort (admittedly us included), so maybe those will also die down as the novelty wears off.

One thing I just noticed, is that sometime in the last 2 months they changed the minimum points for direct buying at RIV again. When I bought in 2019 it was 25 points for an add-on. Then it increased to 50 points through this spring. Sometime recently they changed it back to 25. Not sure why or when, but for me that is a big deal as far as adding on.

It seems the new 25 point add on showed up with the new incentives September 9th.

We bought in October 2019 and it was 50 point minimum. Since it only went on sale around March/April 2019, if it was 25 at one point, it was not very long.

They don't send many empty ones. Pre covid we were in line behind about maybe a dozen people and waited 10 - 15 minutes to board, this was returning to Epcot. They were boarding more than one party per gondola at that time. I just don't think they are making it a great thing for their newest resort. We boarded faster at Epcot where the line was much longer, on the way to Riviera.

Ya not sure when you were taking it. We never had any issues at RIV but those are just are experience as I know it can fluctuate.

Benefit though is long term they can start tweaking it as they get more data. It would be strange though to have that many people unless it was around park opening.

It was mid morning in February 2020, just before the lockdown.

I had this exact same experience in January. We did breakfast at topolinos before gettting on skyliner to epcot. There was very short line but it took significant time since almost no cars were arriving empty. This may work better in future or when they fill multiple parties but it was bad enough I will hold off trying to stay at riviera until better experience.

This was also our experience Dec 2020 after breakfast/at Epcot open.

We did however take other rides for lunch and dinners this last Aug and there was no lines or issues.

It might be an opening thing which is true for most of the transportation options.

I was looking for the add on tool but don't see it anymore, not that 25 points would do me a whole lot of good .
