OKW experts please reply

Thankfully, we'll be staying at OKW this fall. It's one resort we always visited having stayed at SSR several times and we are looking forward to enjoying everything OKW has to offer - especially the beautiful palms and the peaceful atmosphere it seems to have.

Having said that, I would like to know from the experts which building in your opinion is THE worst to stay in and why. And if you feel liking sharing which building you think is the best, too, that's great!

Thanks so much. :cool2:

Also, don't forget to add in the interior studios that are missing a window in the bedroom area. This totally changes the entire feel of the place. They are in the U shaped buildings #14, 18, 35, and 38. This only affects the studios though.

My favorite would be 45 or 46. Wife thinks it's too far to walk to the hot tub, but she likes the view, so we aim for that if we can get it. Really didn't care for 29 at all, and we haven't stayed in anything on Turtle pond that we liked.

I agree about bldg. 29. I also would not want to stay in 19 which is basically right on top of the Miller's Road pool. We were put in 54 in February where the golf view was pretty well blocked by trees, but was right across from the South Point pool. We prefer 30-33, 62, and 16. 45 and 46 are also really nice. One time when we stayed in 45, some of our party were returning from DTD by boat, and the captain pulled right up to the bank and let them off there. She probably shouldn't have done that, but it's a nice memory of that stay.

Looks like if I get assigned to building 29, I'm begging to get switched!!

Brenle, you don't mention what type of accomodations you are getting. Studios tend to have the toughest views, often due to overgrown vegetation and being on the corners. We had an OKW GV stay planned and arrived a day early, booking a studio and the room was on the bottom floor, near the a/c's, it was so dark, the shrubs were so overgrown, light didn't even come in. The only request we've made at OKW has been for GV's, over the years I've found Bldng. 15 is the one we like best. Our typical stays are in 2 br's, and to date w/out requests (20 +/- stays) we've never been disapointed with the location or the view.

I love and use our balconies, and OKW's balconies really extend your living space. Over the years we've gotten Bldngs. 15 GV, 19, 45, 46, 49 GV, 53 GV, 55, and I guess thankfully never 29 that I can recall! If we plan on BBQing it's nice to be by the quiet pools where they are located! We'll be there in June, hopefully we get #15, if not it will still be great!

We have a one bedroom but I'm waitlisted for a two bedroom. Are all the studios on the bottom floors, one bedrooms on second? I'm not familiar with OKW at all. I hope you have a great time there in June. We'll be heading there in the fall.

LOL! We haven't had that happen often, but when we get the early morning or late night noisy upstairs kids, I find a well placed broom handle to the ceiling gets the point across just fine.;)

Hahahahahaha.

I've only stayed once at OKW and was assigned Building 52. While we enjoyed our stay, our time on the balcony was a little annoying with the constant roar of traffic from the highway.

Also, buildings 52 and I believe 51's parking lot also act as the bus turnaround. It was downright scary loading our kids into the rental car with busses wizzing only 5 feet from us as they made the turn around for their stop.

I'm making a list of the worst buildings. Thanks for your opinions. Can you see me at the check-in desk now? Yup, I'll be the pain-in-the-a%$ in front of you complaining about each building I'm assigned. :rotfl:

Funny that you just said this. I also just printed off a map and have been putting "stars" and "x's" all over the buildings. I can just see the CM's face when I pull this out of my pocket. :rotfl:

I wonder if they know about us on the disboards and groan, oh, no, not one of THEM. :headache: Picky, picky, picky.

Well it would be pretty hard for them to "whiz" by when they have to slow down to almost stopping just to make the turn. We never heard them either of the times we stayed in 51 and 52.

No, there are studios on more than one level in most buildings. All OKW buildings are a bit different. Most are either 2 or 3 stories. The studios are made up of 2 bedroom lock off units, so the studios are all on the outside ends of the buildings with the 1 bedroom portion being between the locked off studio and the next unit.

We just stayed in 19 over Easter. Our room was on the left side of the building and we weren't bothered by the pool at all. We couldn't see it from our room and only once, around 11AM did we hear noise coming from that area. We did like the convenience for catching the bus.

We were also in bldg 19 over Easter and our biggest problem was we were on the end by the road so had our loudest OKW stay ever combined with buses and some loud guests.

And I'll be the guy behind you that says "I'll have what she/he's having!" :lmao:

The best thing about a 1 and 2br is the size of the balcony/patio and fall has the perfect weather for you to enjoy it! I have a quiet cup of coffee there every morning before every one else wakes!

We've stayed all over OKW with great locations. The worst of all was building 11 across from the HH. It seemed like it should have been a good spot but the balcony faced out towards a wooded area. Now this would normally not be a big deal, but it was right on top of you. Really no view at all. It was quiet though, which was very nice.

We are huge fans of buildings 23 - 26 on Peninsular Road. It's right by the bus stop and an easy walk over the bridge to the HH and main pool area where we spend a huge amount of time. Nothing like being the first ones dropped off at the end of a long day. And if we miss the bus when it goes past in the moring we just stroll up to the HH house and catch it on the way out. Great views from the balconies as well. We are usually in a 2br or Grand Villa.

Good Luck!!!

If it is loud enough for you to hear them, as long as windows and doors are closed it is loud enough for security to remind them others are sleeping and hold it down.

Are there quiet hours at OKW? I've never noticed. If having a conversation in normal voices in a hot tub is worth calling security, then I'm in trouble. I felt the problem was the location of the hot tub, not the people doing what you are supposed to do in a hot tub.:confused3

The hours that the pools (and hot tubs) can be used are noted on the signs at the pools. If you are very quiet you might be able to hang around after that time. But even then, you shouldn't be surprised if they ask you to leave the pool after hours.

Its not the busses, you hear... its the traffic from the hi-way.

And yes, the busses do whiz by the entrance to parking for building 52. They may only be traveling 20mph, but its all relative. When they pass within 5 feet of you loading a 6 year-old into the car, and the bus traffic is constant through your parking lot every 2-5 minutes, it is both unnerving and a safety issue! Also, accoring to the map posted at the beginning of the thread, it is the only bus stop that does not have a dedicated "rotary" to turn around. Instead, they use your building's parking lot.

I loved OKW, but really hated our building location. Call me over-protective if you want, but as a parent it drove me crazy.

Just a head's up...you might also want to try and stay away from building 20. The buses use the parking area for a turn around there also.

We did not stay in 51 or 52, but I would try to move if we were ever put in a room there. We caught the bus at the stop near those buildings and I remember thinking how as a parent with young kids I would not want to have my kids getting in and out of the car with those buses driving by, even if they are only going 10 mph. We don't just let our kids do whatever they want, they have all been taught that you don't dart out into the parking lot after exiting a vehicle, but they are kids and sometimes they forget. Maybe I am over-protective, too, but I'm with you on this being a safety concern if you are traveling with young kids.

We have only had one OKW stay so far and were in building 46 - nice view of the canal, quiet and not too far from the main building. We enjoyed our view and using the balcony, with the exception of when a neighboring man peed off his balcony.

Building 46 is our favorite of all, but you had someone pee off his balcony????!!! I'd be complaining about that at the front desk! Unbelievable!

Wow, one stay at OKW and you hit the jackpot!!
