We have always stayed at BWV but are doing a quick trip the end of March with family and booked OKW 1 bedrooms. We visited there when the Vacation Club was first introduced but have never been back. Any ideas for tansportation and eating, etc. We have a 15 year old and we are bringing a 3 year old for his first trip to Disney! :cool1:

OKW has it's own busses---does not share with any other Resort and imo is close to perfect----Olivia's is very good---the pool areas are beautiful and the boat ride over to the Marketplace is very nice. You may wind up with a new favorite place to stay!!! :goodvibes Honi

Last year I stayed at OKW for the first time after 8 visits between BWV and BCV. Well let me say it was the nicest trip my family has taken and can't wait to go back. The first that I noticed was how laid back I felt. didn't feel the pressure of having to do something. The pool is great, had a blast at the community hall, kids went fishing, and the buses were the best no extra stops. I highly recommend OKW.

If you arrive "home" late (after the parks close-9PMish) and if your 15 your old is like ours-make sure you grab a bite to eat before you get there.

We also like OKW. Happy New Year  :Pinkbounc

That's one of the best things about DVC- a full kitchen. My teens are always eating and I keep the fridge stocked so they're able to eat whenever they want.

:earsgirl: I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT i THINK OKW IS THE BEST RESORT. IT IS SO LAYED BACK THERE. YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR AT HOME (BUT IN A RESORT ON VACATION!) THE ROOMS ARE MUCH BIGGER AND YOUR NOT TAKING AN ELEVATOR UP (WHICH MAKES ME FEEL LIKE WERE IN A HOTEL) POOLS ARE GREAT AND THE ATMOSPHERE IS SOMETHING I COULD BOTTLE UP AND TAKE HOME WITH ME. WE'VE BEEN MEMBERS SINCE 1994 AND TRIED OTHER PLACES- NOTHING COMPARES!

I am also considering a stay at OKW, we have been staying between
bcv and bwv for the last few years and love it(especially bcv) love
being able to walk in/out of epcot and mgm having the restaurants of
the boardwalk so close. we will need a 3 bedroom and don't have enough
points to stay at bwv without paying some cash. will have 6 kids..ages 18-13-12-12-7-6 3 boys 3 girls. I hope you are all right and okw is all that.
my main concern is the time it will take via buses to get from resort to parks, having become so use to walking do the buses take to long.

locate where in the resort you want to stay. There are five bus stops within the resort. It usually stops last at the hospitality house. The buses (for the most part ) run constant. I always ask which bus just left from the people waiting (or the ones they have seen go by) If your bus passed already -hop in your car and meet it at the hospitality house if in a real hurry. BUt waiting at the bus stop can be a bonding time with your family -we usually have fun just waiting for the bus. And if you get a good bus driver loaded with trivia - the ride can be fun too! For the most part they run every twenty-minutes.If you don't want to wait for a bus - just drive if you have a car. the parking is free with your resort pass in the window. BUT MY BIGGEST TIP IS ALWAYS RIDE THE BUS TO THE MAGIC KINGDOM - OTHERWISEYOU GET DROPPED OFF AT THE TICKET AND TRANSPORTATION CENTER AND STILL HAVE TO TAKE THE MONORAIL OR BOAT ACROSS WHICH TAKES MORE TIME. If you drive the walk from the parks parking lots to the gates is really no different from the gates to the bus stop. And when your hot and tired your on your way back to the resort much sooner. (It may be hot in the car at first in the summer months, but is worth ot) :earsboy:

getting to the parks on the buses is not long.

going around to the 5 stops does take a while.

epcot is maybe 5 minutes once the bus leaves the resort, MK is around 12 minutes, Studios is around 7 minutes, AK is around 15 minutes.

but going around to each stop and loading people takes time - around 15 minutes total before leaving for the parks. that is without a wheelchair getting on or off. Now if there is a wheelchair add 5 more minutes.... that say each bus can only 2 wheelchairs - so at the most it would only add 10 minutes.

Mother still needs her wheelchair - so we aren't leaving it in the room to make the buses run faster.....

The buses are fine. We've had worse bus service from the BCV/BWV buses.

All of the DVC resorts have advantages and disadvantages but for us it's Old Key West and has been for numerous trips since May, 1992. Being able to drive right up to your door and having the people in the General Store, Front desk, Hanks and Olivia's recognize you is fantastic. A real second home!!
