Hi, We would like to go to Universal next year. I am thinking of either a split stay where we go to Universal deluxe hotel for a couple of nights to get EP (but we have a 6 day ticket) and then OKW for relaxed pool time and a day at HS for Star Wars, or vice versa. Has anyone rented a car at OKW and driven to Universal, or is that too much of a hassle? My husband is not keen on split stays, but I really like utilizing Magical Express and staying on Disney Property (to be fair, I have never stayed on Universal property). Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

We’ve stayed at a TS just north of Disney Springs, so not far from OKW. It’s an easy drive from there to Universal, and you don’t even have to get on I-4.

That said, staying at one of their deluxe hotels in order to get EP can be very helpful, especially if you’re going at a busy time. We even pay for a night there during the time we’re booked at the TS.

We just did this trip last week. Sun-Wed at OKW, then moved to Royal Pacific Wed & Thurs night. Almost everyone ended up upgrading to an annual pass at Universal so they could go back in on Friday.
While OKWs rooms are huge and it does feel homey, the convenience of RP was outstanding. It will cost you about $10 to uber from OKW to UO, but staying onsite at their hotel lets you bypass the main security hub in favor of the one at the hotel dock, and you don't have that crazy long march from parking to Citywalk to the park. So add $10 and a hassle every day you're at OKW.
ETA: Add $20, because presumably you want a ride back as well. ;)

Alamo Car Care Center near MK will pick you up for free at OKW or any resort on property. You can reserve a car for 24 hours and then return it and the shuttle will drop you off anywhere on property. We also like the convenience of ME but sometimes want a car too - this works well for us.
