I am trying to figure out the best way to get from OKW to the start of the marathon.

Someone mentioned on the parks forum that I could probably walk since the start corrals were right next to OKW.

Did anyone go last year? Is OKW really close to the Epcot Wonder section of the parking lot?

OKW is very close to the marathon start, but is not an easy walk.

You might want to take a taxi for easy access.

We could see the start area (lighting and Hot Air Balloons) from our room at OKW early in the morning- but I suspect it's still about a mile to the start from the resort over the roadways. (Less- as the crow flies)

Take a cab- bell services can assist- you've got far enough to go in the race without adding an extra mile+!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the quick response.

My in-laws are going and my father in law has offered to drop me off. I think I will take him up on the offer.

If I am not mistaken, I am pretty sure busses are running that morning.

We usually drop off our runners, however.

Good luck!!!

I am also staying at OKW with my parents for the marathon. I called DIS Sports phone number fom the marathon information e-mailed to me. I was instructed that we (my sister and I) had to take the bus. The reason given was that the start corrals are in a "back parking lot of EPCOT" and we would not be able to access them on foot.

She also told me that the last bus would leave OKW at 4 am. I intend on checking this when I register on Friday

My information, like me, is quite old. I did the second WDW Marathon on 1/8/95. My race day packet information for that year said transportation would begin at 4 A.M. from the front of your WDW resort hotel with buses marked 'Marathon'. I remember well leaving my GF room at 3:30 A.M. for the bus and not being the first one down there. The buses were waiting and transportation was excellent! However, it must not have gone well for some because the race was delayed for over 1/2 hour due to transportation delays. I am not surprised that they are now starting earlier. I wouldn't even think of driving anywhere that morning because Disney does restrict some use of the roads. IMHO it was an extremely well organized and safe event. The final race information if my packet told me exactly what to expect. I think I know WDW fairly well, and to this day I do not know where the bus dropped us off for baggage storage, pre-start chutes, etc. Then we had about a 10 minute walk to the starting chutes. It really was a little eerie in the darkness that morning - which only added to the excitement - but it might be a little stressful if I was trying to do it on my own, like walking from OKW. All in all it was lots of fun. I remember the other racers as friendly and supportive like DVCers. I wish you good luck and good weather. Enjoy!
