I've seen photos of Old Key West and a golf course. Does anyone know the name of the course? Is it available for use by OKW guests? I went to the OKW website and clicked on "recreation". It did not mention golf as a choice.

OKW is located on the Lake Buena Vista Course. The start of the course is located at SSR.

The course also has a few holes by the Grandstand section of SSR. It is a Disney golf course, not a DVC so check on the regular Disney site for information. It is open to everyone. Also, it has been closed the past few months for rehab, and is scheduled to reopen sometime in September so not sure how much info you will find right now or when tee times can be made.

The course that goes through OKW (and parts of SSR) is known as the Lake Buena Vista course. Its open to all - you don't have to be a guest at any resort to play there. The pro shop for this course is located in the main building at SSR (downstairs). Call 1-407-WDW-GOLF to make a T-time.

Is SSR within walking distance from OKW? Will I need transportation to check in at the golf course office?

Yes, you would need transportation (portions of OKW are within walking distance of portions of SSR, but not to the clubhouse at SSR). Check with resort but I believe they still provide free transportation (cab) from resorts to golf courses. As to courses, Lake Buena Vista is one of five 18 hole courses -- the others are Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines (near Fort Wilderness), and Palm and Magnolia (at Shades of Green). However, Eagle and Osprey are where the new Four Seasons resort is going, and will be transfered to Four Seasons (Eagle may be closed now as construction is around it). That is unfortunate because Osprey is the best course of all of them.

There is a DVC discount for golf. You purchase, for $50 plus tax, an annual DVC golf card at any of the pro shops and then can golf at a discount at any of the Disney courses for tee times after 10 a.m. Amount of discount depends on time of year. Note, it is generally not worth buying the discount card if you are going to golf only once or twice during the period of a year. If you have an Annual Pass, you can get 30% off (without buying any extra golf card) and that includes early morning times.

If you do not have a car you could get a taxi. SSR is within walking distance if you go out of OKW by building 55 and follow the path to DTD there is a place where it cuts over to SSR and comes out near the pro shop I think. If you are a member of the golf club ( or whatever it is called) you can get reduced rates and they will send someone to pick you up at your resort. I guess you could also follow the golf course paths from OKW to SSR but don't know if that is considered a correct thing to do. As someone else said call the WDW golf number and they can give you all the info you will need.

I have never been to OKW, but some of the buildings were right on the golf course. I would assume depending on your location, you could walk the cart path to SSR to the start, if you dont mind it. More than likely you would want to drive over to SSR.

I have played LBV course three times, and I like it. One of the reasons I love SSR - I usually take a day in our vacation to play a round, and you can't beat having a course right there. The Palms and Magnolia are also nice, they are located over by the Polynesian and Grand Floridian area.

Enjoy

Walking the cart paths or on any part of the course when not a player is prohibited for safety reasons.

This is how they say the transportation works (we always rent a car, so no firt-hand experience)-go to Bell Services and ask for a cab to the golf course. They will get you a cab and give you a boucher so that you don't have to pay. Then when you're ready to come back to the resort, the pro shop will do the same (cab/voucher). And if you're staying at OKW and golfing at LBV, you can get some great photos if someone stays at the villa to take your picture as you come buy.

Absolutely go to Bell Services for transportation. Very slick! We've done it many times, just make sure you have a couple $$ for a tip.

It is a great service, but if you read the voucher that you get from bell services, the tip is already included in what DVC pays the cab company.

Thanks Disney Dave!!! You learn something new every day! Guess I should read more diligently:)
