Hope that is the correct year to start with!

Anyway - we are interested in an OKW resale but really think the extended years are the way to go for us.

Are these as few and far apart as they seem? I have been checking daily but they are almost never listed.

Would I be better buying SSR for the extended year value?

Can you buy the longer term from Disney direst?

Many thanks and best wishes.

DVC did not sell as many extended OKW as they would have liked, most likely since the release of that offer came a bit early in the contract.

So that is most likely why you see less of them at resale.
I believe if you buy direct, the extended may be the one Disney offers but I would check with them

All OKW purchases made directly from DVC will have the extended date. As noted, to a great extent those who extended intended to keep their contracts for their family and did not do so with any plan to sell the contract. The extended OKW resales that have been listed have not shown the $15-25 difference in what the extension cost - so if you can find one it's a good deal. You might even contact the resal ebrokers to let them know what you want. Otherwise, a purchase from DVC directly will have the 2057 date.

Good luck! :)

yep, they are rare.

i'd agree that this is the easiest and cheapest option. it gets you to 2054 at least. if you're happy just being on property and can book 9-11 months out, i don't think it matters. if you really want OKW for the GVs or studios with 2 "real" beds, then i'd hold out for OKW (although from a practical standpoint, both OKW and SSR are larger resorts and will often/usually have availability at 7 months out ...except for OKW GVs and SSR THVs.)

Can you buy the longer term from Disney direst?

yes - but the difference between direct pricing and resale pricing may be a factor. if the direct price is $90 per pt and resale is mid-$70s, maybe it's worth it to you to buy direct if you're in a hurry...but i'd call a couple of the resale outfits like the timeshare store to get on their email list for new contracts first to see if a cheaper resale shows up soon.

I believe you can currently add-on at OKW for $90/point (direct thru Disney).

The resale agents are great at scouting out contracts. What you see listed on the resale websites may not necessarily be all that is available. I e-mailed **** at http://www.**********.com/ and he was able find a contract for me that I did not see listed anywhere. So definitely e-mail the resale agents what you are looking for. I think you will be pleasantly surprised...

Good Luck! :)

Thanks for the feedback which I very much appreciate. We would be looking at studio or one bed accomodation but I would prefer to buy where I want to stay. Am at disney I
in august so I will see what they have to offer. We are in no rush at all. Thanks again.

I'd look long and hard at any premium you might be paying for the extra years.

And then ask yourself, "Would I rather spend that extra money for more points that I can use for the next 32 years...or for points I don't see until 2042?"

That's the question those of us who own OKW asked when the extension was offered...and the reason why they didn't sell very many extensions!

That is an interesting point - it is hard to draw a comparison when so few extensions seem to be re-selling. Thanks very much for posting.

Frankly, I think those who paid for the extention were those who knew it made sense for them to have the extra years for the cost of the extention. For that reason, they likely did NOT extend simply to resell.

By the same token, those of us who did not extend didn't see any real value to it. We will be in our mid 90's (God willing) when the original contract expires, and our "kids" will be in their upper 60's and 70. It just didn't make sense to us to extend it.

We added on to our OKW conract to 2057.
( I understood that if I want to re-sell in the future the contract would have to be adjusted to the extended date (with the extra cost) So in the end, the extra cost would have to be paid, regardless.

I did the extension for my 280 pts. contract - it cost $4,000 (approx. $14pp)

I am now thinking of selling, (maybe next year?), I hope the cost per point will reflect the $4,000 extention??

Looking at the re-sale sites, seems that OKW pts. are going for approx. $70pp.
Is that for the 2042 contracts?

Buying direct from Disney (2057 contract) approx. $90pp???

How reasonable is it to expect to get about $83 pp for a Re-Sale extended contract??

Appreciate any comments!

We just purchased Old Key West Direct from Disney. We found that the few extended contracts we could find on the market did not match what we were looking for point wise. Our DVCmember.com account was set up last week and points are already in our account even though Disney just received the paperwork today. Disney would have allowed us to purchase as little as 50 points but we chose 100. We did submit an offer for an extended contract at $65pp but the seller pulled the listing after he accepted our offer (long story). If you're looking for ease of purchase Disney might be the way to go. As other posters have mentioned the purchase of extended years was made for our future generations to enjoy Disney as much as we do. If you have any questions feel free to pm me since we're going through this process right now.

Recent ROFR on extended OKW have been selling and passing for an average of $71.57 (range $45-$73).

Some say they expect resale prices to firm up as the economy improves, but I don't think the OKW extension is going to make much difference in selling price.

The folks at the resellers can give you a better idea than we can, but my sense is the price for your contract would be influenced much more by the points available NOW than anything else.

Many contracts on the market are stripped, or have current UY points that are beyond their banking deadline and probably can't be used. (e.g. If you buy a Dec UY with full 2009 points, there is very little likelihood that you'd be able to use them before they expire on Dec 1.) Those contracts sell for a lower price.

If all, or almost all, of the points are still available for the current year (and there is a reasonable amount of time remaining in the current UY to use them), you should get a middle-of-the road price...I'd guess low $60's.

If you don't use your points and you have a large number banked, you should get a few dollars a point more.

To me, that math on point availability is much more important than an expiration date 32 years or 47 years in the future.

Once again, JimMIA has hit the nail squarly on the head! We saw no point in paying $15 a point now for something that wouldn't go into effect until we are in our mid 90's or gone. Now if they would ask me that 5 years before the end of the contract date, it would have made more sense.
