One La Crescenta resident's decision to paint her house neon green has drawn the ire of neighbors who say the color stands out in all the wrong ways.

For the last month, the foothill house at 3045 Markridge Road has been coated in neon green with purple trim — a stark contrast to the muted, earthy tunes of the neighboring homes.

The blaring color has also done more than simply highlight the Markridge Road house; it has also exposed the lack of regulatory recourse for nearby homeowners.

There is a picture at the link, too.

I must be crazy, because I like it! Personally, I'm sick of all the beige and pale yellow and light pink one sees on houses so often. Give me a maroon, or red, or lime green over that any day!

I like it... but we typically have bright colored homes here in the Caribbean. Turquoise and pastel yellow are very popular, and I don't think I'd be surprised if I saw a neon-green home here. I used to live in so-cal, and part of the problem there is that all of the homes do look exactly the same. It's nice that she spiced up the neighborhood a bit, and given her some sense of individuality.

I like it too.

Course, I do live in a bright yellow house. With green trim. Think.... John Deere Green. :thumbsup2

I like it too! What I wouldn't like is an unpainted, peeling, raggedy looking house in my neighborhood. But that house looks spiffy! More power to her! :woohoo:

i love it too! especially her purple trim!

awesome lady to do that and it looks like the (partial) house shown down the street needs to be fixed up.

and we're use to a few colorful houses here in new orleans.

Good for her :rotfl: I think it looks good too! Too many people worry about such silliness. The neighbors should use it as a landmark when giving directions

Well, I'm surprised that I'm the first to say this, but that is HIDEOUS. Ew ew ew. :scared:

That is exactly the word I was going to use. I'm not thinking the neighbors can do anything other than whine about it though.

It wouldn't be the color scheme I would pick but this is why I wouldn't live in a HOA area, so I could paint my house this way if I wanted to.

I hate all the cookie cutter houses that all look alike and are all in neutral colors. I know someone who recently changed the siding on their house from the dull blue in our neighborhood (to which 1/2 the time we have to ask "is that a blue house or grey house?") to a much brighter light blue! It really makes their house pop now & I love it.

I think without any restrictions on what color scheme you can paint your house, there isn't much the neighbors can do about it. She could have painted it neon orange which I think would have been worse but maybe not.

Boo freakin hoo to her neighbors. Personally, I hate neighborhoods that are all a standard color. I love where I live -- old Victorian across the street is a gorgeous deep plum color. Two other Vics in the neighborhood are bright pink. As long as it's done well, which it looks to me the lime green is, then what's the big deal?

Now, we do have a property down the street that has 3 mobile homes on it. The owner got mad about something the city did (can't remember what) and he painted one of the trailers Pepto Bismol pink! :scared1: It sure is an eyesore, but we laughed for weeks every time we drove by it.

It didnt' look like one of the nice brick HOA subdivisions, so really, it's not too bad. DO I care for it...nah... but I've seen worse

I'd rather live next to a Lime Green neighbor who was nice, polite, quiet, and kept their yard clear of garbage than a Neutral neighbor who couldn't care less if their middle of the night party kept everyone awake and threw their garbage all over their lawn.

I would absolutely not want this color house next door to mine.

EDIT: I love the title of your thread...LOL

I think it looks good on that house. But I can see why the neighbors might not like it, if it is the only house around painted in a non neutral color.
