With regard to FastPass, the reason you may be seeing conflicting info is that they DO keep tweaking the system. You probably already know the basics--the kiosk will list current return time. Insert your park pass to receive FastPass ticket valid for the posted return time.
The part that they keep changing slightly is the time on which you can get ANOTHER fastpass. At this point, the time on which you can obtain another pass should be printed on the current Fastpass ticket you are holding. So, you don't even need to memorize the system--as soon as you get a FastPass ticket, look at the time that you can get another and plan accordingly.
At the very least, you will be able to get another FastPass just BEFORE you use the one you're holding. Best use of your time is to take advantage of this. For example, if you get a Rock N Rollercoaster FastPass with a 10:00-10:50 return time, by 10:00 you should be able to get another. Before you get in line for RNR, pop over to Tower of Terror and get a new pass. This type of system helps maximize your time. Most people don't realize that you can be holding two passes at a time.
