Okay... Just how much can the Vero Beach Resort withstand?

I have a BIL, SIL and 2 nieces who live in VB. I spoke to them last night and most businesses were closing at 1:00 PM today. My SIL is a bank manager and she was leaving after the bank closes today, packing up the family and driving to her sisters in Orlando. They were out of lumber last night and they were unable to get their windows boarded up. They happen to have one of a handful of homes that have a hurricane shelter that was built back in the 1950's but didn't want to ride it out there. They said they were beginning evacuation last night on what they call the island, which is where Disney is at. Let's hope it ends up like Floyd and misses them but it certainly doesn't look like it.

If Disney is forced to admit, with relatively high probability, their resort could be destroyed by a hurricane then you can be sure that if the eye-wall of a class 4 or 5 hit the resort it would be a total loss.

I hope your wrong.

Canda -- Your friend's comment about the garage is right on the money. I wasn't paying close attention but I remember being told while at Vero about the extensive things they had built to help in a hurricane and there was something about the garage and withstanding water. It must be what your friend was describing.

They are showing up to 25 foot seas from this that is some large waves crashing in on that beach not sure how far away from the beach teh buildings are but that is some serious pounding for anything close. Not to sure if it will still be that high once it hits land but if it is I do not know anything that can withstand a constant crash of 25 foot waves. Hope everything comes out well though as my In Laws own there.
