What a beautiful picture PW. It is so lovely and rare to see that type of relationship today. Reminds me of my grandparents, who have both passed away. Thinking of that, I should get my mother a card. My grandmother passed away 3 years ago on the 14th of this month, and my mother takes it very hard each year, they were extremely close.
re: colder weather...
I was a native Floridian, born and raised here. I didn't see snow until I was 18 years old when I took a very small trip to Ohio in December. That was my one and only experience with snow for years, and then my ex got a job in Indianapolis and we moved up there. Last year's winter was rough. At first, snow was such a novelty, then it became like FL rain...an annoyance. I loved coming home to FL for X-mas last year and being able to wear shorts and tank tops and flip flops, and walking on the beach!! Although it was sad and dreary sometimes up in IN, it was also beautiful in so many ways that FL just isn't. I LOVED when it was becoming fall up there. It was like a picture post-card. The trees turned amazing shades of yellow, red, orange, pink, and purple. I had never seen anything like it except for on TV or in a picture. Here in FL we go from green leaves on the tree to dead leaves on the ground!!
The snow was also magical at times. Maybe not so much for someone who would have grown up around it, but for a new-comer to snow it was "special." Watching it at night, and waking in the morning to find everything bathed in a sheet of white. Again it almost looked like a picture, not real life for me. Another thing I LOVED about living up north was how good it was for my hair!!
Low humidity!!!!!! Unilke FL, which seems at times to be the humidity capital of the Universe!!!! The worst parts of course were when the snow would start to melt and mix with dirt and then you would get wet nasty stuff tracked into your house and car, or when you would *ahem* slip and fall on your bum. I remember a particularly embarassing time when I took a nasty spill in a big ice patch!! While I am happy to be living back in FL for so many reasons, there are tons of things I feel I missed out on only spending one season in the snow. So many things I want to experience. They may sound childish to people who had these experiences when they were kids, but I have never built a snowman, or had snow ice cream. I have never been ice skating or skiing. Some day I think I will move north again, because FL just doesn't hold any special feelings for me (except of course for WDW). For now though, I will be happy that I can walk outside in bare feet and a bathing suit to lounge in the sun, instead of bundled into a warm coat and gloves!!
