Okay, it's official, I'm worried!!

So I saw that the announcement was that the Magic will now leave on Monday instead of Saturday and the Wonder will leave also on Monday instead of Sunday. DCL was contacting the affected passengers.

So, Kim, have they contacted you yet? Was just wondering what they were saying and offering for the shortened cruise although I do realize that it's not their fault at all.

Pixie dust to all in the way of Frances.

Yes, they contacted us this afternoon, Fiona. :)

For the new '5' day Magic cruise they offered;

40% off your cruise fare
$200 shipboard credit
25% off a future booking

You also had the option of a full refund, or re-scheduling with no fee. I don't really know anything about cruising, but that sounded very generous to me.

It was kind of funny. When Rebecca from DCL called, I told her I'd been expecting to hear from them. She asked me what I knew and I told her about some of the comp offers. She immediately said "You're on the DIS boards, aren't you!" :)

After numerous telephone calls, and frantic emails, DH decided 'Enough!', we would cancel. So we have.

Part of the problem (along of couse with heading into a hurricane!!) was that we couldn't get our POR reservation extended past Friday night. They told us the 'World' was booked solid, and that we could end up in the lobby. DCL also checked for us, and basically told us the same thing.

**Special thanks to Sue Ellen of The DIS and Dreams Unlimited, for trying to find something for us!! :)

Luckily we'll be able to salvage the second half of our trip!! Our TA was able to move our flight for tomorrow (Air Transat) to next Friday, and we'll return home on our original date, the 17th. Hopefully things will be somewhat back to normal in Florida by then????

We've spoken with our friends at the Wilderness Lodge, and they are going to go ahead and cruise on Monday. I hope it all works out fine for them, and all the other cruisers, and that they have a wonderful time!! :)

Wishing and praying for the best for everyone in Florida!!!! Keep safe!!!

Thank you, guys, you're all very sweet!!

::yes::

So sorry that you're going to miss the cruise Kim but at least you will get part of your vacation. Hopefully Florida will not be hit as hard as they are predicting and everything will be fine.

We are driving down to our cruise on Oct 2nd so hopefully it will go smoothly. From everything I've read there isn't a hotel room to be found anywhere and I'm sure that WDW is packed.

What they offered seems really generous to me even though we've only been on one cruise.

Fiona

Oh Kim, I am so glad you are going to stay safely here. While Disney's offer was very generous, it really isn't worth the risk and you will still get to go on a cruise.

They say that Frances is as large as the state of Texas - that's one big storm that you don't want to have to deal with when you have the option of staying here.

That's pretty much what my husband said, Peggy!

I know......it's very frightening! :(

I'm also glad to hear that you're both staying home for a few days. It's sad to see you miss the cruise but I think you're much better off staying in sunny Hamilton!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

WDW was very generous with their offer and I hope your friends have a safe and wonderful time.:D

This is such a massive hurricane......prayers go to all that live and are vacationing in Florida. :sunny:

Hi Kim, I've been following the hurricane and I am so sorry the way things turned out, regarding the cruise part of your Anniversary trip. I too think that you have made a wise decision to stay home this weekend. Who knows what they are going to have to deal with after Frances has passed through there.

I just hope that everyone living and vacationing in Florida this weekend stays safe!

I've sent you an email.

Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary Kim. I too, am glad you decided to cancel. I was speaking with Julie this morning and she told me what's been going on regarding your cruise (I've been away getting DS settled at WLU and forgot the power adapter for my laptop  so haven't been on the DIS for a few days). I've been thinking about you all day hoping everything would work out OK...happy to hear you'll be safe and sound at home. We'll all have to pray that Frances doesn't hit as hard as they're predicting.

I'm also happy to hear you'll still be able to get to WDW so you can at least celebrate part of your anniversary with your "other love". ;) ;) Keep us posted.

Congrats on your 25th anniversary.... glad you've decided to stay home too!!

Oh Kim! You must have been living a heartache and headache and stomach ache these past few days! I did a search to find out what was going on with you and found this thread. I am sorry you are going to miss out on cruising but totally understand you doing same. I know we would have done the same. I can't understand why BIL left yesterday for Florida. I told him he was nuts! And he is just visiting WDW where he has been a million times before.

Anyway, I am happy to hear that you are still going for the second part of the trip and I am hopeful our meet for Monday at Mama Melrose is still a go. I look forward to meeting you both.

Now, take a deep breath, relax and use this extra time to properly prepare and pack for WDW. See ya soon.

Tulirose, welcome to Canada!!! :teeth: Okay, well welcome to the Canadian board...lol :)

I'm fine, feeling much better about things today. After all the phone calls, and back and forth planning ideas, it was somewhat of a relief to finally make a decision. Not going was the right one, for us.

We'll cruise someday, maybe early next year. We have to go, I bought a TON of new clothes!!! :D

Hmmm...there's a thought...maybe I should wear my formal gown for our Mama Melrose lunch!! :scratchin ;)

I am still very concerned about our friends who are at WDW. I wish I had been more forceful in encouraging them to come home, while they still could. I know Disney will take good care of them, but still, I keep thinking of Julia, their 7 yr old daughter. I worry that for her, magical Disney could turn into a very scary place and memory. :(

Saying a prayer for everyone down there! I hope your BIL will be okay, Rosemary!

*Got your 'e' Julie, I'll get back to you very soon! :)

Thanks for the 25th Anniversary wishes, everyone! :) We have one more month to go, but I'm pretty confident we'll make it. ;) :)

Kim

Kim I'm sure your friends will be well taken care of at WDW. I was there during a hurricane and it was scary, but they made me feel as safe as possible. They also got things back to normal as soon as they could. We still managed to have a good time (before and after the huricane) and it's become our most memorable trip.

I'm sorry you're missing your cruise but it's great that you managed to salvage a lot of your trip. I'm sure your gown will look lovely at mama melrose's :teeth:
