Okay, Is it just me or is anyone else worried

that a big old hurricane is going to come and blow away their disney dream vacation? I just haven't been able to get myself into the "disney mood" (we leave in 3 weeks) yet because I am afraid that if I do, a major storm is going to disrupt my vacation. I know, I know, I sound SO selfish with everything else that is going on in the world, but when you have spent the last several months planning each and every detail so that your family can have some real quality family time together, you like to see it to fruition. Am I the only one feeling this way?

On a side note-(and I hope and pray this doesn't happen) does anyone know what Disney does if you have to cancel? We have a very narrow window of time in which we can go because of the kids school schedule. Rescheduling just wouldn't be an option. I did buy trip insurance this trip knowing that this could be a problem. If you have had to cancel and you had trip insurance did they give you a full refund? Goodness, I am such a worry wart today!!!

I am not worried at all. We will just go with the flow.....we will be together as a family and have quality time away together whether we can go out or not is not a big deal. Historically the parks have not been closed for significant amounts of time due to storms.

I'm hoping that a hurricane won't come through while we're there...but to be completely honest, I'm really interested in seeing what it's like to be in WDW during a hurricane. I'm odd that way.

Honestly, it's such a rare occasion. WDW has been in Florida for about 35 years and they only had to close the park twice. Once during 9/11 and once for hurricane Charley. They didn't close for Floyd right?

I had the same worries about the weather. Especially hurricanes on my trip last October because hurricane season isn't officially over till the end of November. But I worried myself for nothing because the weather was sunny yet hot.

I have a trip for the end of September and decided not too give myself a headache. All you can do is hope for the best.

Honestly, it's such a rare occasion. WDW has been in Florida for about 35 years and they only had to close the park twice. Once during 9/11 and once for hurricane Charley. They didn't close for Floyd right?

Actually, they closed twice last year, within 2 weeks of each other, due to storms. However, I am hoping in 19 days there are NO storms or Tropical Depressions as I will be going to WDW at that time. I never go during this time, but a co-worker planned thier 1st trip with thier DD and I want to make sure they have a good time, so I am meeting them there.

We were at Disney during Charley. For the most part, the parks only closed half the day. And...the rest of our vacation was BEAUTIFUL weather. Besides, we're from WI and not to make light of the situation but, we thought it was an interesting experience. Disney can make even a hurricane seem okay. The majority of the clean up was done by the time we walked out of our hotel room in the morning!! The waterparks did have to remain closed a day or two longer.

We always go during that time of the year, we have even cruised during hurricane season.

Last year there was some wind and rain from Katrina, but nothing too bad.

Worst case, I still will not be at work, so that is a vacation in itself.

You will have a great time no matter what, try not to worry!

I worried about it last year before we went, and we had really nice weather (if you like it stifling hot ). This year, we are going the same time of year, and I'm not going to worry about it. We'll weather that storm when it happens.

Don't worry about being "selfish" - life goes on no matter what your situation. You've worked hard and planned for a vacation. There's nothing wrong with worrying about something like a large storm ruining it. You'd be selfish if you were at WDW and were obnoxious if something were to come to pass and you were more concerned with going to the parks than general safety - other than that - go, and have a great time! We'll be there in three weeks, too. I'd prefer no hurricane!!!

Floyd hit NC even though some of the outer bands may have hit Florida. It wouldn't have been enough for closings I don't think.

We were there in '04 for Hurricane Charley and the impact on our WDW vacation was minimal. The hurricane was scheduled to hit Friday, and hit Friday evening. The parks were open until 1 on Friday. Saturday, 3 of the 4 parks were open Saturday morning with some disruptions in normal services, like 1 line of the monorail down and FASTPASS not operational. Otherwise, you wouldn't have known a hurricane had hit 12 hours before. Our family was amazed at the work done to get the parks open and looking so great!

Here is a link to really cool interactive map courtesy of one of our local stations. You can select historical storms and look at the path. The one that amazes me, and that the old folks talk about is Hazel. I have read reports that it was still a hurricane when it hit Toronto.

I worry about it "blowing" my Disney trip for Labor Day. The last 2 years I had to cancel due to hurricanes.. on top of that, I worry that it will not only blow away my trip but my house as well!!!

I know it is hard not to think about a hurricane hitting, but we were there in 2004 for Hurricane Francis and the impact on Disney was minimal. Disney hotels are much saver than if you were in a regular home down in Florida during a hurricane, say visiting friends or something.

Being there during Francis was an experience and did it ruin our trip of course not, but it did make it different. They did close the parks, but let me tell you the day before the hurricane hit, the parks were empty and what a great time we had at MK. The first day that they opened the parks after the hurricane, again empty and we had so much fun.

Just roll with the punches and focus on the positive, don't think of things that will ruin your vacation!

They did close the parks for Floyd - we were there. At the time it looked to be a direct hit on the coast and then head inland thru the Orlando area. It ended up turning up the coast and not making contact with Florida from what I remember. They closed early one day, and then were closed the entire following day. Longest line I've ever been in at WDW was the food line in the POR food court. I think we waited about 2 hours to get some food. We had nothing else to do, however. It was not a fun time. The weather never really ended up getting bad, and we were stuck in our resort for too long. That said - we went last September and weather was perfect (other than heat and humidity), and returning again this September. The things we do for free food...

Thanks everyone for all the comforting words! I know it is crazy to worry over things that you can't control-unfortunately it's my nature. I am just going to cross my fingers and wish for the best! BTW, we are staying at Pop Century.
