Yesterday at IOA we were stopped for a survey while exiting. One of the questions was whether we had enjoyed ourselves more there than at Disney. As a longtime Member of the Mouse Cult, I am ashamed to admit that I quite truthfully and unabashedly answered "Yes!" (Note that I'm speaking as a local, so please take my opinion as such.)
Hubby and I discussed it on the way home. We decided that we enjoy so many more rides/shows at USF/IOA. At Disney, the only things we really LOVE are the safari ride and Legend of the Lion King at AK (Everest is okay but downright boring when you compare it to Mummy, and things like Dinosaur, the mad mouse coaster, and Bugs Life are take-it-or-leave-it); Test Track, Soarin', and Turtle Talk at Epcot, (used to love Figment, but the travesty they changed it to makes me projectile vomit...I do enjoy Spaceship Earth and Ellen's Energy Adventure); Tower of Terror and the Little Mermaid Show at MGM; and nothing in particular at MK...we enjoy things like Pirates and Thunder Mountain, but none of them are "wows." With our favorites spread over four parks, it's a real pain in the butt...otherwise, we're stuck at one park with only one or two things we'd bother to do repetitively.
At Universal, I could ride Mummy and MIB all day, and Terminator is my favorite 3-D show ever. We usually toss in Twister and rotate between Beetlejuice, the animal show, and Fear Factor. Once we've had enough there, it's just a short walk to Hulk (another all-day rider for me), Spidey, and Dueling Dragons. I could spend a happy day just rotating between those three. Disney has absolutely no REAL roller coaster in my view, so I need IOA for my fix.
Since we live so close to the parks, I have an aversion to long lines. Thus, we've avoided Disney at the peak times because all the Fast Passes are gone within the first couple of hours. Better just to wait till the dead times. We know how to work the Fast Past system pretty good at non-peak, but it's still kind of a pain to have to plan your day that carefully vs. being spontaneous.
With the introduction of the premier passes, our Disney attendance has plummeted because we're always at USF/IOA. We've actually started visiting at busy times because we can be spontaneous and not spend our entire day in lines. If I were still a tourist, I'd be onsite at USF/IOA vs. Disney in a heartbeat. I hate to admit it, but the Mouse has lost us. It's been months since I've been to WDW and I have no real desire to go.
Hubby did point out one thing he prefers at Disney: Illuminations and the various fireworks shows. But since we live so close, he just drives over at closing time for those. For actual theme park ride time, we just don't bother anymore.
