Okay...I gotta be honest now (long)

Okay, time to get serious. I don't know exactly how much weight you want to lose but if you are in ketosis you will eventually lose it. Ketosis=presence of ketones in urine. Ketones=by products of the body's process of burning body fat for fuel. If you are in Ketosis you are burning your own fat for fuel. You are on track and doing what you are supposed to be doing.

So what we have here is a problem with two things. A number on a scale and a timeline. You have a certain number that you have decided that you must see on the scale and you have decided that you are going to determine when that number will appear.

It's situations like this where mother nature sort of slaps us around and lets us know that we are not in charge of this stuff. I have a question for you: are you losing weight as a temporary fix or do you plan to continue to eat a controlled carbohydrate diet after the weight is gone? I hope you will think about this carefully.

I know one thing for sure. If you quit now you aren't going to reach your goal. Your fellow WISHers can offer you support and advice but we can't help if you quit.

So, think about a few things:

1. Do I physically need to lose weight or do I just want to lose weight.

2. Do I want to eat controlled carbohydrate meals for the rest of my life or am I going to be going up and down 10 pounds on a regular basis from here on out?

3. Do I feel deprived? When I finish losing weight am I going right back to eating sugar and other refined carbohydrates? (see #2)

4. Am I journaling my intake on www.fitday.com so that I know for sure that my proportions of fat/protein/carbohydrate are within the levels they should be?

5. Do I really want nativetxn to get onto me for lurking? (I'm teasing)

I love having you here with us on WISH. You are a joy and you make me smile. I don't want you to leave us but I don't want you making yourself miserable either.

Go find a quiet place and do some serious thinking. You are a very important part of my support group. I want you to do what is right for you. Let me know what you decide. I'll be right here waiting. {{{HUGS}}}

Kath....I have been holding back on this for a few days...because I knew I would not be able to face you...I knew what you were going to say...YOU ARE RIGHT...I am doing this for LIFE not for losing weight!!! I guess my fustration is coming from not losing...not so much feeling deprived of something...b/c I really don't miss anything per se.

1. YES...I do need to lose weight...a good 20 -25 pounds!

2. YES I do want to stay on controlled Carbs for life...I love this lifestyle.

3. NO...I do not feel deprived (quite the oppisite) I will not go back to my old lifestyle..I don't miss the sugar!

4. YES...I do go to fit day...almost every single day....and I am usually at 55%-65% fat each day with less than 20 carbs.

5. NO...I really do not want nativetxn to bust me lurking.

I am not miserable Kath...I just feel like this is not "working" as well for me as it does for most everyone else. I am going to the beach today...and I am going to re-read the atkins for life book.(that usually helps me put things into perspective!).

THANKS--Luv

Tracy

YAY! It's difficult to be patient, Tracy, I know. I'm glad that you aren't feeling miserable.

Now, no more lurking, okay? How can we help if you don't come here and ask? {{{HUGS}}}

Try increasing your fat just a little bit and see if that won't jumpstart your weight loss. Also try changing your exercise to a different type. If you walk, try jogging; if you swim, try walking etc etc. Sometimes changing the kind of exercise we do will jumpstart the losing again.

Kath..

Have you read the part in the Atkins book for extreme metabolic resistance??? Its eating 1000 cals a day 200 at a time...with ALOT of fat?

My DH...says that its probabaly not the best thing for me to do...but I was just wondering what you think?

Tracy

The "Fat Fast" is eating 200 calories per meal and 5 meals a day for a total of 1,000 calories/day. I have considered trying it but I don't know what I would eat, I don't like plain cream cheese by itself and I'm not sure how I would do eating all the calories from macadamia nuts ;)

It probably wouldn't hurt you for a few days. Let me know if you decide to try it, I've always been curious about what someone would really eat every day on the fat fast. I think Atkins suggested 3 or 4 days on that to see if it works?

I'm just adding another please hang in there with us. I have also had very slow loss. I just got my 10 pound clippie today and I'll have to double check but I believe that is in 3 months!!!! I did (okay - do) have some health challenges (kidney cyst with infection, ovarian cyst, mono... the list goes on) that have probably slowed me down, but I keep coming back. This place keeps me honest and from losing track of what is important.

I had a liver ultrasound 4 or so years ago - after several years of low fat and high carb dieting frustration. I had fat deposits in my liver. Now eating low carb they are gone - that means I'm healthier. I have PCOS which impacts insulin resistance, glucose tolerance and really plays funky with hormones. My change in eating plans has made that almost normal.

I truly believe that if I stick to this the weight will come off in time. Yes it is hard to see people who joined after I did have lost twice the pounds or more. And yes, all together I have between 100 and 125 pounds to lose so at this rate it will take a long time. But you know what - I'll get there. If I had done this two or three years ago I'd be there now. But back then I gave up. This time I WILL NOT give up on myself. Keep coming back - and keep posting. We support the good times and the bad.

You are right there with me on weight loss. Last year I lost about 20 lbs and I can tell you that came off much quicker then the last 20 is. I did pretty well at maintaining, but not at losing so now I am buckling down. However, I figure it may take me 6 or more months just to lose this last 20 since it is just going slower. I guess the easy fat goes first. LOL

Hang in there.
