Can you use a zoom lens from a non-digital camera with a digital camera?

My brother had this camera that didn't work but he had a zoom lens for it and I was wondering if there was a way to use it?

I am guessing no but thought it was worth asking...

I have a Canon S3, this lens(kinda old) is a 80-200mm F4.5 One touch macro focus multi-coated automatic diaphragm(okay thats what the box says)

Filter size 55 mm screw-in

I would like to use it but since it is just collecting dust..

Can you get a converter for something like this?

Waste of time?

typically lenes have a mount, in the canon world there are the EOS mounts and the stuff that is even older than that.

If you had an old eos 35mm camera, you would be able to use your lens on the newer rebels etc...

But I don' think it will work on an S3 the S3's will take "lenses" but what they really are is filters that are attached in front of the fixed lens.

thanks.

Thought it might be worth a shot..:goodvibes

if it's really old see if it's an ef or fd...ef you could use if you got a dslr/canon sometime( unless they change their whole system), fd no

Macro you say? Hmmm, I've been looking for a macro lens... will it fit a Nikon? lol
