Okay computer peeps--WHY does my laptop refuse to clear its cache?

I go to Tools, Internet Options, General Tab, Temporary Internet files, Delete files, check delete all off-line content.....

And it just does screen flash and then just sits with an hour glass.

After staring at my screen waiting for the magical moment for it to finish as I have done in the past....

I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and the IE window I used to do that is "not responding".

I'd love to empty my cache...but my laptop seems to be on strike.

Any thoughts?

Here is what I have to do :

Tools, Internet Options, General Tab, Temporary Internet files, settings, view files, then manually highlite a portion of your files and then click delete these files. Keep deleting the files this until they are all gone. Pain in the butt I know, but thats the only way I have found to clear it.

Most helpful--thankyou!

I shall try that.

Hubby is a software engineer and not an IT guy--so it would have taken him weeks to think about what could he possibly do to help this problem.

Well dang....

no wonder it froze---It looks like I haven't cleared it in years.

LOTS and LOTS and LOTS

(just checked it the other day so that probably doesn't tell you much :rotfl: )

1.43 Gig ram

Can't remember where we looked the other day to see how much I had left....that wasn't utilized and I believe it was 1 Gig.

What I usually do too is delete the cookies FIRST.....and then I don't seem to have the problem of deleting some at a time

is that RAM, hard drive space, or GHz? RAM is physical memory, it doesn't change. :)

Patience, if you have not done it in a while it can take a LONG LONG time

do you have norton system works? It has a disk cleanup and also a one button checkup that will clear temp internet files. Is that the same as the cache?

Mikeeee

You might try the Windows generic "Disk Cleanup" tool under "System Tools". It lets you pick which kind of files to delete. It's the way I always do file cleanup. Also, I have the option checked in IE to delete Temporary Internet files every time I exit IE. I've used that option for years and have never wished I hadn't done it.

Well that is just too complicated a question.

I had 75% left when we checked earlier in the week.
