I finished making my ADR's. I wanted to book a fantasmic package since fantasmic is only shown twice I think during the week we are going in march. We are not on the dining plan.. paying oop, I tried for Mama Melrose's but there was nothing available on the package.. my choices were Hollywood and Vine at 3:30 or Brown Derby. Since we are oop and we have a 4 year old... the CM sort of talked me into Hollywood and Vine... I mean almost 200.00 for an oop meal just to see fantasmic seemed excessive.. so I went with Hollywood & Vine. I have tried to search for reviews but not really getting the search to work much. The few that I have seen recently seem very negative toward Hollywood & Vine... so I really don't know what to think. I would love to hear your opinions.. especially if you have some glowing reports of how good there food is. Also what exactly do they usually have on the buffest? Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I could be positive--but we don't like it. We often say if they offered to pay for our meal we wouldn't go again. We gave it two shots and both time there was almost non-existent service, filthy tables, floor, medicore, lukewarm food--and that's when they had replaced the food in a timely fashion. We love buffets, but this one we just found absolutely terrible. We didn't care for Brown Derby that much when we went six years ago and haven't gone back since--not worth two credits as far as we are concerned. I'm sorry you couldn't get Mama Melrose.

WE went for a character lunch in 07. I thought the food was pretty good, they had carved meats and boiled shrimp plus alot of other things. I can't really remember. We did the Fantasmic pkg at Mama Melrose's and I was not very impressed with the food. My kids didn't like their choices much. At least with H&V it is a buffet and if you don't get something you like you can always go back and find something you do like.

I would also suggest to keep trying if you really wany MM's because someone may cancel and you might get lucky.:)

I was nervous too when we went the beginning of December and I had switched my reservation from MM to H&V so we could be on the Fantasmic Package. I had read so many negative comments about it that I was almost ready to cancel it and eat CS instead. I'm so glad I didn't. Out of a week of eating buffets for dinner, this was our second favorite. I thought the food was delicious and there was a great variety of items offered to satisfy everyone in my family. Our waitress was very attentive to us and I found it a fun atmosphere to be in. I would definitey eat there again on our next trip. I remember sitting there wondering what bothered so many people about the place but I couldn't come up with the answer.

We ate there back in 2003 and I liked it just fine. Not fantastic but not bad, just standard buffet fare. :)

I hear so many bad things about it for dinner. I am going to try it for breakfast . Does anybody like there breakfast? Is it in the same order as CM & CP ?

we have tried a lot of Disney buffets and restaurants and HW is one of our favorites, give it a try I´m sure that you will like it like me. Have a magical vacation with our friend Mickey mouse :thumbsup2

We love the Hollywood & Vine :) In fact it's our favorite buffet in WDW ! As far as the food goes it's alot of things you would cook at home , not all the fancy items that some of the Restaurants serve , so this goes over well for us since were from a small town and have 3 kids and rarely eat fancy meals.:thumbsup2

We ate there last year for lunch and had a good experience. The characters were great, and the food was standard buffet. I didn't think it was as good as Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Faire, but still good nonetheless. We ate at Mama Melrose a couple of years ago and did not like it.

we have done H & V many times. Mostly because we were at MGM studios and wanted to be there......Alot of choices and it was not that bad. We like the corn casserole I think it is called and the meats and fish dishes were pretty good. The kids had the kids stuff as well as the adults food and enjoyed it . The dessert bar was great. We love ice cream on top of the apple crisp...

H & V is one of only 2 restaurants in all of WDW that we won't go back to.
In our experience it was Horrid. The food was lukewarm and not good. The only good things were the bread and the dessert bar.
We were surrounded by dirty, unbussed tables, our waitress was RUDE, the Ladies Room was FILTHY.
We went with low expectations and we were still very disappointed.
I agree, if they offered free food, I would not step back in there.
Sorry

We were there in July, and did not like it at all...This was the only place that didn't suit us...My kids loved sci fi, so we will totally do that again...I have 3 kids, 9,8 and 4...
good luck

We hit it as a last minute stop, no AdR a couple of years ago. We arrived just as most of the fantasmic customers were leaving. We had good food, a decent waitress. We haven't been back because the food is your basic fare. Stuff we can get around here. We try to stick to more varied menus when in Disney. It seemed very kid friendly, though we don't have any kids. The table next to us had 3 kids who were going nuts over the mac and cheese.

That is one place no way Jose will we ever go back to again. From service to the food the entire experience was horrible

We did the H&V Fantasmic package in Oct, 2007. We had 7 people with us, and everyone liked it a lot. Our server was very nice and attentive, and I didn't notice any dirtiness? The other day I was talking to my DSis about the boards, and mentioned that H&V gets awful reviews. She said, "did you tell them you liked it??" She really liked it. I didn't think it was "great", but I thought it was just fine for what it was.

I am a firm believer that I have to try things myself to make a decision, and in your situation, I think you should go ahead with it. Hopefully you won't be disgusted like some others have been, but you'll know next time. We are going in Feb, and I'm really starting to regret not doing the FP this time. DD wanted to try Sci-Fi, but now I wish I had a H&V res!

Have fun!!!

we have had dinner at H&V at least three or four times and more than once it was voted best buffet of the trip! we have always enjoyed it and are already looking forward to it next month :)

Just like these reviews, try it yourself we were pleasently suprised.:wave2:

I tried H & V this past Oct. I was really nervous because of all the bad reviews. We loved it. The service was great, I didn't notice any dirty tables or floors, the food was standard buffet but there was a decent amount of variety. We would definitely go back again.

Thanks for the encouraging words:goodvibes . We really want to see Fantasmic and with all of the comments about how hard it is to see it since they have lowered the amounts it is shown I really feel like this is our best chance at ensuring that we get to see it. I just can't imagine waiting 1 1/2 to 2 hours with a 4 year old to make sure we have a seat. I guess we will look at it as something new and hope we have a good experience!!:thumbsup2

Just ate there twice in December, over the holidays, our Christmas Eve dinner was there. The food was great, fresh and hot!! Service was awesome...we always go there at least once every trip...for the price difference, we;'s ather go there then Crystal Palace, as my kids are not into the characters as much any more.
Don't fret, it will fine, especially at that time, I beleive you are at the start of the supper time, so it should all be fresh!
