Personally, I'm really fed up with hearing how everything "sucks".
Have our language skills deteriorated to the point that even educated adults cannot find a better way of describing an unpleasant situation? PLEASE!

I'll go with you on that on, HunnyPots. I see a few phrases here on the CB, which reflects life in general pretty well, that I would put in that same category.

The Corporate Cliché really annoys me!

When I go to business meetings and the Corporate Cliché's are thrown around, half the people there nod and smile wisely, but haven't the faintest idea what on earth the other person's on about! I often sit there and say soemthing like, "I'm sorry, but I didn't quite understand what you just said, would you mind explaining it to me and anyone else who may be unsure".

It's amazing how many cliché users don't really know what it is they're actually saying!

Well there you are, that's my gripe for the day - well you did ask. :jester:

"whatever"

When I use it, it's ok ;)

But when someone says it to me ~ ARGH!!

While were on this topic, when used in the context of saying "well done" to someone, what does the phrase "Way to go" actually mean?

The phrase implies that there is still some work to be done to achieve a goal, but in common usage it's a 'pat on the back' suggesting that an objective has already been met.

The exchange that absolutely, positively sends me around the bend is as follows....

Me: Thank You.

?: UH HUH.

UH HUH???? When the hell did that become a way to say, "You're Welcome"? I find it derogatory, offensive and lazy. I usually look people in the eye and say, "Excuse me....I didn't catch that."

I also hate, "Whatever". If you don't like what I've said, explain yourself. "Whatever" is another way to ignore communication.

Whatever...this sucks...oh, my bad...I guess I wasn't thinking outside the box. Way to go, me! :(

;) :teeth:

Paradigm Shift........you know everyone must have it.

The first time I heard "Me bad" was when I was teaching and I thought the student was being sarcastic for what she did!

lots of things get on my nerves. my bad being one of them. the worst at them moment is "you know" before or after everything they say. my DS6 has just recently picked this up. and for the life of me i cant figure out from where.

I'm guilty of these which drive me crazy so what must they do to the other person?.....using the words "I go" when I mean "I said" and inserting the word "like" everywhere. It's really not a valley girl type thing anymore. I don't know why I do it.

WHATEVER drives me crazy too. My first instinct is to slap the mouth that it comes out of, especially if it's my kids. It is so rude and inconsiderate...even more so when they make the "W" with their fingers.

"My bad."
What in the world is THIS and where did it come from?!!!
I agree with the questions: What ever happened to "I'm sorry." "It was my fault."

I hate how everyone so casually states that things "suck." That used to be a horribly degrading and obscene (i.e. there's a sexual connotation/origin to this people) thing to say. I remember my mother practically grounding me for saying it in the 70's. I'm REALLY not a prude, but EVERYONE from TV news anchors to kids on sitcoms say this like it's "nothing."

the term "God bless most of you" irks me to no end

I have 2.

If my boss says to me one more time "My plate is full" I think I'll scream.

The other is Rachel Ray on TV network. How many times can it be "good to go"?

"Do you follow me?" is one that irritates me. And "if you say so."

And I spell it "sux" but I'm on IM a lot and tend to abbreviate things.

"He/she called me out my name."

I have no clue what it means, but I hear it a lot. I guess it irks me because I don't know what it means. :p

I am "wanting" to go here, or "wanting" him to do this.

One of my close friends, Christina, was a cheerleader this past year and she would always say, and I quote "Oh MY god!! I like so can't believe that!! That is like so totally cool!!"
Drives everyone else CRAZY!!

Oh, and when Heathers bros' say I got that! Slap yourself!!
All the guys at our also say this fluently.  :D

I can't stand "freakin'" it's right up there with "sucks" it's become part of everyday language.

This is more regional but I can't stand to hear "fixin' to".
