In the past few weeks I have ordered a few things online. One I ordered at the end of December. The charge showed up on my online checking thingy the same day. A few days later I noticed it moved to a different day. Then last week it disappeared completely. I got a notice that the item shipped yesterday but the charge is still not back on my account. Another thing I ordered last week, showed up immediately, got a notice that it shipped on Monday, it is now gone from my account. Any ideas? Now I am super paranoid that there is something out there that I forgot about that I am not taking into account that is going to screw me up in the next couple weeks.

I often use my debit card when I make online purchases. The $$ are held, but if the item doesn't ship relatively fast (few days?) the held amount will revert back into my account. When it does ship, my checking account will then show an actual deduction (like any other check).
I don't know if there are universal rules for this, or just what is customary for individual banks.

Write down the charges in your register (or whatever you use...I use a notebook) as you make them. Don't rely on checking online banking to see what's coming out or has come out.

That's what DH used to do, which messed us up royally, before I took over the banking.

This must have happened to us. My husband ordered two watches on 12/30...with our debit card. The amt. showed up a pending, then I disappeared, and they have not shipped yet so I am guessing when they ship, the debit will actually come out. :confused3

I don't know what is going on either.

But I have had four Internet orders just in the last thirty days that have gone haywire.

Charging me for supposed in stock items, that they do not have and until I follow up I guess have no intention of shipping.

Two PayPal disputes (first time ever on that!) for non shipment.

One amazon third party seller that is sending me harassing emails!

It has been a bumpy road!:confused3

They are not allowed to settle the sale until the item is shipped according to the Store's agreement with the Payment Card merchant (Credit Card Company clearing house). What you are seeing is the initial Authorization to verify your credit card works and has enough money on it.

I use my debit card as well and the charges dropping off the account seems to be happening more quickly than previously. I am not sure why but typically it takes 5-7 days for a pending charge that has not yet shipped or been completed to drop off my account but we had several christmas orders drop off within a couple days and then reappear at shipping. Not a big deal but it was weird that they disappeared off the account so quickly.
