Ok, what am I doing wrong?! (cd burning question)

I have figured out how to use my cd burner to copy photos. I thought I'd be adventurous and try my hand at copying cds - both computer games and music cds. Since I am here, posting this question, you can tell how well I'm doing! I have a Easy Cd Creator 5 installed. I telling it what I want it to do.....it goes through all the steps...then when there is only a little bit left to go, I get an error message! I have wasted about 3 cds at this point! I have tried both disney and nondisney cds. Anybody have any ideas?

I hate calling Phillips tech support again! They are not very knowledgable!

a lot of cd's and computer programs have encryption so you cannot copy them since it's illegal.

Do you have just one CD player on your computer? I have copied many CDs on mine with two (one CD/DVD player and one CD-RW) and never encountered any problems. I did copy a music CD last night on my laptop (only have a DVD/CD-RW on it) and I had to save the file to my hard drive first. I use Roxio Easy CD creator 5.0 myself... which way are you trying to do the CD? (I have many choices on how to start burning the CD)

Try copying at a slower speed...sometimes that works..

I also have the Roxio CD Creator 5. I am asking it to "make a cd copy". I saw where you can check the speed at which you are burning. It says "4" and there is no other choice.

I tried to copy the music cd Jungle Book 2 (this copied the first 7 tracks then stopped), Zoo Tycoon Marine Mania. Didn't copy anything. Clue Finders from Learning Company said that it copied, with errors. When I try to put it in the computer to see how it copied, it won't even play.

I have one internal cd drive and one external cd burner.

One question about the Roxio cd creator...do you have to use the direct cd option to 'format' the cd before using it? Phillips said that I had to, but I discovered if I use the XP cd creator, I don't need to worry about doing that. I have no clue!

I use XP on one computer and 98 on the other computer. I have done it both ways (not formatted and formatted) on XP and both have worked for me (that's my laptop). I would try formatting though just in case... it can't hurt. Also make sure you are "finalizing" the CD after it has copied to it.

Truthfully I haven't had trouble with this yet on anything I have created and I usually just do "Copy CD"

No, do NOT use the Direct CD option to format the disc before copying. The copy process itself formats the CD, you should not have to. and if you are just doing a direct CD copy, the disc should be finalized already, you won't have to worry about that.

If I rememer correctly, that 'burn speed' is a dropdown that you can select a slower burn speed. If you can't find it there, I'd recommend you look to find it somewhere else. Some CD's are flaky when you burn them at higher speeds.

Alot of CD's and Computer Programs DO NOT have any encryption or copyprotection. Copy Protection is brand new and it is rare to find.

Your problem is more than likely not with the CD's you are trying to copy. Since the copy almost completes it sounds like your having a Buffer underrun problem (in easy terms - adjust burn settings.)

Try writing to the CD at a slower burn speed. Also, try copying it to the hard drive (ISO) and burn from the their.

This is hard for me to explain with getting technical, but the buttom line is the problem is being caused by your PC

WE had a Philips CR-RW and used Roxio Easy CD Creator and I could never figure it out on our old Gateway with Win982E. I had the same problems wasting discs without getting full recordings. We used some other program but I don't know at this time what it was. Since we got this new pc with WinXP I haven't made an attempt at burning. I just downloaded a bunch of "nascar" songs and will wait for DH before I try burning.
