We're in the final planning stages for our 2nd trip to WDW this December. :cool1:

We have a very picky 4 year old who's diet is pretty limited due to some severe allergies he had as an infant.

Is it completely frowned upon to bring a CS meal from somewhere else that we know he will eat to a TS restaurant?

I've tried my best to book adr's at places that he will pick something off the menu, but there are places we'd like to try that I know he won't eat anything from.

Will they allow "outside" food?

Thanks for any advice!!

I've never had experience with it but I've heard that the Disney chefs are very good about making accommodations for people with food allergies. Maybe you could try getting in touch with Disney Dining and see which restaurants will be able to make your child something they can and are willing to eat!

If that is not an option, I don't see why it would be a problem to bring in CS food. I would probably make it a point to explain quickly to the host and waiter, just to ease my own mind about what they might be thinking.

Why don't you just feed him first at the places you know he won't eat at and then bring him in a snack for your dinner time.Sounds easier than trying to bring in a whole CS meal I am sure that that would be frowned at.

You will not be allowed to do so for buffets or all you can eat meals. These are charged per person.

Don't know about the others.

As suggested above, I would just get the chefs to accomadate his allegries. I don't think many places will appreciate you bringing in outside food, and i am not sure about Florida but in some states it is health code violation.

We brought my son some cooked pasta last week to 50s diner and Le Cellier , because of his limited diet. Neither waitperson seemed to care that we did that.

To the best of my knowledge, the health code violation is only about bringing outside food into the kitchen. Bringing it into the dining are would be fine (according to code) but the kitchen has to stay free from it. This means they would not be able to prep anything for anyone, could not heat anything up for anyone, or store a birthday cake.

My DS is on the autism spectrum and has a VERY self-restricted diet. We bring food for him to every meal. We do order him a meal and try to get him to eat food from the buffets, but we also know I can pull out a yogurt and fruit for him if he won't take a bite. Nobody minds.

We couldn't dine out without doing that.

Good luck,
Heather

What you might want to do is contact the Special Diets department and ask to speak with chefs at the restaurants where you have concerns about finding something for him to eat. The chefs will call you at home to discuss his needs and work with you to figure out something that they can make for him, or give you an honest answer that they can't do anything for him if that is the real answer. The chefs really do bend over backwards for dietary special needs. At least you'll know which restaurants will require you to bring some food for him vs being able to get him something there. I've had chefs get food from nearby restaurants for our daughter when they didn't have something she could/would eat (she has a long list of allergies plus she's autistic so I do understand where you're coming from). We've never had to bring food for her but I do also pick and choose our restaurants based on which ones can accomodate her. I've cancelled ADRs after talking with chefs (I'm so grateful that they really are honest and upfront).

Thank you so much for all of the info and suggestions!

I think there is only one or two places that we'd go that they'd have to modify the food for him. I'd be willing to call ahead to see if they could make some accommodations.

If not, I guess I hadn't really thought about having him eat something before hand and then keeping him entertained thru dinner. (not the most ideal for a 4 year old, but not impossible either). I can't believe I didn't really think of doing that before...guess you get caught up in the whole planning thing when it comes to Disney that you sometimes overlook the obvious and norm. :)

I have just ordered my DS a dessert and drink if he did eat before our meal. I also on one occasion brought in a smuckers uncrustable for him and ordered the drink and dessert. It was just fine with our server. Now that he's older, the chefs have been able to get him something he would eat even if it was not on the menu.
