WE all know, espcially me because i am there almost every day (lol) that wdw prices for food can be ridiculous. I puchased a Twix candy bar from the Main street confectionary yesterday and it cost $2.30! I about died, but like an idiot handed over the money. Walmart sells these for .50 lol.

Oh the things we'll do for chocolate. If the craving was bad enough, I'd probably give them my left arm if they asked for it.

Seriously, that does stink and it is a good reminder to pack a few snacks of your own if you are looking to save a few bucks. I hope it tasted good at least.

You proved why they can charge $2.30 for a Twix. You bought it.

They charge a ridiculous amount because they know most people on vacation are more likely to splurge and pay more for things than they'd ever pay normally. They also know that while folks are on property, Disney has a captive audience. They bank (literally) on the fact that most visitors will feel it's easier to fork over the extra $$ than to leave and go off site to find whatever it is they need.

No way would I pay that much for a Twix. I'd waste my money on some really good chocolate.:goodvibes

Been there. Paid $2.25 for a Flake at the UK pavilion I paid 55p for on a vacation to the UK. Holy cow! But when that yellow wrapper starts smiling at you, your hand just automatically starts reaching for the $$$....

There is a term for this. It's called "captive audience". What are you going to do when you are hungry at Disney World? Not a lot of people can or will hop into a car and go off site to get cheaper food. At least at Disney World you can bring in snacks and drinks.

At movie theatres, you can't. So you'll pay that higher price for everything. Candy, soda, a box of popcorn.

Sporting events are the same way. $8 for a beer or $5 for a hot dog. And there, most of the time, you can't even leave the stadium and come back.

As long as there is a captive audience, food and drink prices are going to be higher. Because you either can't or won't leave that venue to go get something cheaper. The first example of this was on the turnpikes. Gas and food there were extremely high because if you got off the turnpike, you had to pay to get off and to get back on again.

Be thankful, places along the boardwalks used to (and still might) charge for you to use the bathroom.

I must be one of those weird people who thinks that prices at WDW are not in general out of line. Yes, that much for a candy bar is way too much, but WDW is one place where buying candy bars doesn't make sense.

The food portions at WDW are huge, too huge. A big doublecheeseburger is enough for two people. At $7, it's not a bad price at all. I work in Washington, DC and it's very difficult to have lunch and not spend more than that. No captive audience involved. Most of the restaurant meals in WDW can be split, especially if you have kids.

We were charged .58 for one Twix bar at the local Walmart here, and they added 7.5 percent sales tax as well.:rotfl2:

That is why we always make sure to hit BJ's here at home before we leave, we get a large pack of the mini M&M's in the tubes and a assortment package with oreoe's, chips ahoy, cheeze nips and such so every day when we leave the room we throw some snacks in the park suitcase that has extra cigerettes, sun block, change of clothes for little ones etc. It's a Disney Winnie the Pooh suitcase and fits right in the bottom basket of the stroller.

We were in Las Vegas last weekend and they were 2.95 at our hotel, so WDW is a relative bargain!

and don't forget you can get a 24 pack of 1/2 liter bottles of water for $5.99 at Publix.

and at the park you pay $2.00 for one.

I must really be cheap cause no matter how much I would of liked something like that Twix bar there is no way I would of paid that amount for it. If I think it is insanely overpriced I just go without. Or as others said smuggle it in. such as at the movies.

Try getting the Twix bar at the UK pavilion. I think its something like $3. But it is imported, so its better, right? :)

Even our local Shaw's Supermarket has Twix bars in the international foods section for $2-something. A couple aisles down are the regular ones for much cheaper. And I get get them for sub-50 cents at Costco in a box.

I don't actually know if the imported ones "taste better"...can't bring myself to try. Although an occasional Flake bar, or an Orange Club, or my weakness for Fruit Pastilles may kick in...

ok, but why does the twix cost $2.30 when their mickey mouse choclate bar cost$1.30? Guess that is what i am grousing about.

I wouldn't spend that much on something I can easily get at home for much less. I would be looking around for something different or unusual. Yea, it's going to cost more because it's WDW, but at least it's something a little special. For example, in the Main Street Confectionery, I would be drawn to the chocolate covered strawberries and totally ignoring the Twix (even though I like Twix).

I actually think Disney is on the cheaper side when it comes to food and drink on site as compared to other entertainment venues. The 3 of us ate for around 25.00 routinely during our visit last week. A large Coke for 2.39 is a bargain compared to a movie theatre, ballpark, or Six Flags. Most pastries were in the 3 dollar range on site, that is not too far off our local bakery prices. We took bottles water into the park, and a cup of water is free. McDonalds and Taco Bell now charge .35 for a cup of water.

I would not pay 25.00 for a plate of spaghetti at a table service restaurant on site though, that is where I draw the line.

1) Because there are people who will pay that price.
2) Isn't that correct?
3) If people don't pay those prices, then prices will come down.

That's why I don't buy stuff at Disney that I can get everywhere. Somehow I don't mind spending the money on a Mickey Mouse rice crispie treat for $$ because I can't them them anywhere else!

Conversely, the walk to Everest from walmart is a bugger, and the walmart rides and entertainment leave a lot to be desired. :goodvibes

you said it, you paid for it. If you do not like the price, no one is holding a gun to your head, put it back and move on. I've seen tons of things I don't agree with in Disney but it doesn't make me stop going there, I just don't partake of what I feel is unreasonable. Take beer, favorite for me while on vacation, 5 bucks a bottle for old domestic, no thanks, we do a grocery stop and for 6 bucks and change I can enjoy a 12 pack. It's called live and learn, chatch me once and I should know better, the grocery stop in route is a huge money saver for everything and Disney provides you with a fridge to keep it all.

After spending $50 for lunch for 3 people last week at Six Flags, I feel better about the prices at Disney. And the food is better at Disney, too.
