DH and I have been discussing our vacation for this fall and of course Disney has come up. We have gone every year since 2006. That was our first trip together and when he proposed. We returned for part of our honeymoon in 2007 (as that's where he proposed) and were there last July when I found out I was pregnant! (Yes, I took the test at the Beach Club. I always think about the maid who found that test in our room ;) )

So this year we'd have a 6-8 month old with us - a HUGE change! Part of me would love to go back this year and part of me is thinking I am nuts for even considering bringing a baby that age to the parks. How would we do/see anything? What rides could we take him on and which ones would we have to ride switch (other than the obvious ones.) and how does that work?

He's a great traveler - he went on his first airplane at 2 months and did great and he's had multiple road trips, so driving/traveling is not an issue.

Even though it would be a big pain in the butt, I still kinda want to go. Please tell me I'm nuts so I can move beyond DIsney (at least for this year. )

I say go....from one disney fanatic to another! Others may disagree with me...but if you want to go, why not?

We took our 6 mo old in April and everything worked out fine.

You can take baby on any ride that doesn't have a height restriction. We put DD in a baby backpack and she did everything with us! Nemo (EP), HM, POTC, etc.

We took enough diapers (about 3) and wipes to last us through the first part of the day (we refilled midday). We used one of those 3 chamber formula holders for formula and cereal (again, we could always refill) so our pack was minimal for the parks. There are plenty of places in the park to change diapers and there are the Baby Care centers in each park.

If she was tired, she slept in the pack or the stroller, she really wasn't a pain at all. She didn't care for fireworks, but she was in awe at all of the colors of WDW and it held her attention for the majority of the trip. You guys should be fine.

You sound like me! Honeymoon in 95, every year after that, 98 to get preg, 99, 00, 01 to get preg and every year since.

I brought both of our girls when they were 6 months and they've been every year since. I never even gave it a thought that they wouldn't have fun at Disney or that there would be an issue. It was just a child to add another level to the fun we have there.

Ok - pro - children under three are free! con- there's so much CRAPOLA you have to bring with you for a baby plus the stroller.

GO! It's all about the memories. Start the tradition now! We've been so much we don't need a map and I've seen DD9 give directions they know the parks like the back of their hands.

My younger DD went for the first time when she was 5 months, and it was wonderful! Disney with a chillin' baby is soooooo easy! She was nursing, so we would just make sure when she got hungry, we went on a ride where nursing was easy and private (TTC, Small World, Peter Pan, HM, "Mickey's Big Ball (as my then 2.5 year old called it), or found a private bench. We carried her around in a carrier and had our stroller that would lay flat for when she napped if we weren't holding her in the sling. When she was tired, she slept.

We took her on everything that didn't have a height restriction and it was fantastic!

I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Go. Have a wonderful time introducing your child to the addiction of Disney :)

Do you know anyone you can bring with you to lend a hand, keep the baby company if you both want to go on a ride together? Teenaged niece, etc?

Surely you can handle it on your own, but it might be nice...

I agree with what everyone has said. You should totally go. You will have to tour a lot slower than what you are probably used to but it will give you a chance to see all the little things that we probably miss by trying to get to the big rides.

At 6-8 months he/she will probably be able to have fun in the pool (with you holding her of course) and may even be crawling around by then to have some fun at some of the play areas (like Donald's boat).

plus wouldn't it be neat to have a picture of the baby with Mickey??? Then you could take one every year to see her grow up!!

Ok now I want another baby so I can take one

I personally wouldn't take a 6 month old to Disney, but I'd still go. ;) I would think that would be a nice time for baby to bond with Grandma, but that's just me!

You'll have a blast. We were similar bought into DVC before we were married 1 year and 6 years later had our first and have gone preggo, new baby, toddler. It's always new.

Thanks everyone!

I was really trying to argue against going, but you guys are encouraging. Top it off that last night DH announces that one of the perks of his job is $25 off disney tickets and then I got the discounted hotel code in my email last night. Everything in one day.

Think someone is trying to tell me something?

going with my 8 month old was easier than going with my 16 month old. I would definately go.

DS has gone at 6 mo, 8 mo, 13 mo, 18 mo, 20 mo, and next at 32 mo. Every trip has been a ton of fun, and not very hard at all. DS was actually the easiest to take at 6 mo and 8 mo and we had so much fun. I admit, each trip is more and more fun as DS is able to experience more, but also each trip is more and more work. Pre-walking trips with the little ones are very easy. The only thing to watch out for is the heat. If it gets very hot, you just have to be a bit more careful, as they cannot cool themselves as well, and may get warmer than us either being carried or in a stroller.
